I'm not sure if someone else came across this as well or if it's been linked to somewhere, but its from mr2australia.com and this thread is absolutely full of epic win...
If this thread needs to be moved to a different section that's up to the mods, it's not 100% directly 6th gen related, however it it very much 3SGTE or more specifically 503E related http://www.mr2australia.com/mr2play/tm.asp...&print=true For those looking for inspiration, or some really expensive parts... Whaaatt. Never heard of a 503E until now.
Thank you, thank you very much. Now I will never be able to appreciate my ''cheap ass'' 3s-gte again.. Everything in there is so damn EPIC and eye-candy! I want this engine so bad but I'm not even gonna think about it cause I don't wanna know the price tag/rarity of everything related to the 503E.. Is there any way of getting parts for this engine at all? All those manifolds are gorgeous and what's not to say about all the details.. It's been transformed into.. a PURE race engine. |

If you look around on the internet there is a site that sells specialty and rare engines.
They carry a fully rebuilt 503E... $15k Page 5 on that link is just.... mmm..... dem coolant passages in the head..... mmmmmm Edit: According to the URL it's from 2002, so you'd have to hunt it down... http://www.toysport.com/webpages/webupdate...march202002.htm This post has been edited by cardshark525: Jan 20, 2014 - 9:12 PM |

Yeah but in the end it's a purpose built race engine so whether you're looking at a 503E or something more popular in the GT class like a built S54B32 (2000-2006 M3), you're going to end up paying between $10k-$15k for it.
You could I guess go through the process of making modifications to the block and head etc. to match the 503E. With the proper tools and skill you can do anything I guess but in general if you're just a buyer for a track only race engine to run in say... EP class in SCCA, you're going to shell out $15k for it. In other observations, page 4 is the reason I came across that link/forum. This post has been edited by cardshark525: Jan 21, 2014 - 1:09 AM |

Actually emissions has nothing to do with it because diesels are hardly regulated anyway as they are much more efficient at burning fuel than a gasoline powered car. From what I understand the only regulation here is that the exhaust can't exit straight down under the engine bay. Can go up through the hood or has to clear the passenger compartment if it goes under the car.
It probably has more to do with marketing and the availability of diesel elsewhere in the world vs the U.S. I know back home in Croatia about a good 25% of ALL road going vehicles are diesel compared to the U.S. where it's... 5% maybe? This is also why diesel at the pump over there costs about half of what regular gas costs. My wife was having a conversation on the matter with a family friend and was saying how its better gas mileage etc, etc, and she goes "But the problem here in America is.." and her friend cuts her off and goes: "But diesel's stinky...". ^^ that... is why we don't have that awesome Rav-4 and similar vehicles here. lol.
