I had wondered why if Toyota doesn't make the Celica anymore, why don't they at least make something like it?
All of the regular Toyota models I see on their website had no sports car at all.
Then when I went to pick up the little clips for the brake pads at the Toyota Dealer I walked past one of these

Check out the different colors in the build your own at Scion.com

Scion FR-S

only about $25,000 - 200hp from a 2.0L "flat-four" that makes the center of gravity lower (Subaru motor I think?), 6 speed,
and they say it comes stock with the suspension "neutral balanced"
Sadly it doesn't look like they are making a turbo charged one, but 200hp from the stock motor isn't too shabby.

of course I'll wait till its about 15 years old before I think about letting the Celica go and getting one biggrin.gif

Toyota said they are going to make 3 new sports cars a few years back. They delivered with the FR-S, and I am sure one of the 2 other spots will be a FWD sporty econobox like the celica.

Scion tC. It's as close to a Celica as Toyota will ever make.

This car has been around for a couple years now. The first one I ever saw in person was the brz, on base actually. I already read a lot about it when it was still a concept car. I was really excited about it. Until I saw how it was mass produced. Kind of made it over played like a Honda. Still a very nice car but too common now. Guess that ahat happens when you make an affordable car for the youngsters. Lol.

really guys?!

Toyota created SCION for this very particular reason......

the Tc IS the evolution/replacement of the Celica

and Toyota I doubt will ever release anything close to it under the Toyota name otherwise they are cannibalizing on the SCION line.
SCION is where you're going to get your fun econ boxes from now on.

Not to rain on the parade but, um, we own Celicas which are mass produced and common cars that cost what the FR-S does when they were released in their heyday. Just because they're kinda rarely seen now doesn't mean they were back in the '90s - they aren't Supras or 2000GTs.

Scion exists, as Dan stated, to be your low-cost entry to the Toyota lineup and that means, or it did, that's where your fun and excitement will be just as Lexus is where your luxury and status reside in the Toyota family; each marque exists for a purpose even if we don't like or agree with it.

By the end of this decade, each marque (Scion, Toyota, and Lexus) will have a sports car (2-door, RWD/AWD) on sale or available for buyers. Just wait.

Yet I still have never seen one out on the road. the one at the dealer is the very first one I'd seen in person.
The only Scions I'd seen were those goofy looking box things /shrug

The Scion brand only exists in North America (and only in Canada since 2010).

Everywhere else, the FRS is the Toyota GT-86. Heck, even in North America it's still partially badged as such (see the side badges which form both 86s and opposing pistons). Every other Scion model is sold outside of North America as a Toyota.

Scion was created because Toyota decided it was easier to convince young people to look at a new brand -- similar to how in Japan car companies operate sub-brands which target certain demographics -- than to reconsider the established opinion of Toyota as an automotive appliance manufacturer. Poor sales of the Celica, MR2 and, to a lesser extent, the Echo in the US contributed to this decision.

Note the Supraesque concept rolled out at the Detroit auto show is a Toyota FT-1.

it would be awesome if lexus sold the current model is350 as a watered down version for toyota and call it a Altezza. Or RS350! hehe without all the gps fancy radio heated manual seats traction control would be an option so on and so forth. in order to get the car under $30,000 hmm how awesome would that be
