So i recently bought a 94 celica st 7afe, want more power obviously and found a 5vz-fe from a 4runner for 500 with ecm and all wiring. Was inquiring how much work would be needed to swap this in vs 3vz or 1mz. Also what transmission would i need. I have read k-esds swap but i just want to clarify if its more complicated swapping it into a st than a gt. What motor mounts would be needed, what axles, and such. If i can keep it a cheaper swap and not extensively hard ill go for it. Anyone shed some light on this?

are you doing RWD swap? because i dont see swapping a rwd in a fwd spot. the amount you are saving in the engine you will spend in customizing. not easy, not cheap. plus probably a custom bellhousing is not going to be cheap, assuming no fwd tranny fits

Ha I didn't even think to check Rwd. So I'm assuming all 5vzs are Rwd

It might not clear the hood. 500 for everything is a good deal, but i would hold out for a 1MZ/3MZ. just look good deals are out there. The 5VZ's intake manifold and throttle body is pointing in the wrong direction. You could probably fab up a mix match using a 1MZ intake manifold. hence why rwd does not fit, its not tilted, its too tall, most rwd engines are tall. i have a 1gr in the FJ, and its hella tall compared to the 2gr
i did not know that they had same bolt pattern for our transmission. so thats a new, but.... still customization for hood clearance or a custom lower crossmember and mounts, still need to be done, and defeats the cheap prize. so then again, dont see the RWD engine in a FWD spot being easy... All is doable, if you have the money to do it.. follow the best advice, the one that comes from your heart -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... im just guessing on the hood clearance, they fit in MR2s so it just might. there is no cross member mods needed.
But flat out saying it wont fit is not correct. -------------------- 2001 Celica GT-S Turbo

Well I'm new to the platform. I wanna swap a v6 in my 94 st but don't know what would be the easiest being one1 with the wiring. 1mz has the sludge problem and 3vz is almost 100 lbs heavier than the 1mz. So torn which route to pursue

why? freedom of speech.....
it wont fit. lol i see a waterpump in the way, with four bolts for the fan, that needs to be adressed too.. so maybe it fits? oh wait, where are the bolts for a passenger mount. water necks need to be addressed, i mean, i can go on... -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... What engine would be easiest to swap in with the obd1? 3vz? And the 1mz has sludge problems and the 3vz is almost 100 pounds heavier than the 1mz so I'm torn between the two. 1mz is a little more expensive, harder to wire etc. 3vz is heavier makes less power... What would be ideal budget swap for a 94 st. What mounts would I need for the 3vz or 1ma, and how long will the s54 hold vs e153

OMG!!!! dude, the engine will sit sideways, the waterpump looks like it will sit below the frame rail. and you could put a 3VZ water pump setup on it.
im not going to argue symantics with you. have you tried to install one? I havent either but i have more experience with a 5VZ than you do. all im saying is i think it will fit with minor alterations. Why 1mz.. most say it's more complex and obd2 only there is ODB1 1MZ's out there and even though the 97 is ODBII, it is the easiest to swap in. because 2 + members have already done the job in here and have progress thread. Seriously, then i can put it to good use. Instead of attacking people with semantics, and bashing on every thread you can.. LOL... here you go... because that is what we feel sometimes, those of us that apparently dont have experience with engines. but thats what I get for wasting my time responding to you. have a very nice life sir. oh, and its semantics, not symantics. i love it! oh and for the 1MZ sludge problem. I dont buy it. every engine can have sludge problems if you dont pay attention to them. I have worked on several 1MZ engines and never seen sludge -------------------- 2001 Celica GT-S Turbo

the 1mz i got has 256,000 miles on it and there is no sludge at all. just depends on the previous owner and routine maintenance.

I have done a 5vz swap in my mr2 and it didnt fit without a custom engine lid. You need a custom mount bracket that bolts to the v6 and then a custom piece to bolt that to the chassis, a e153 transmission with v6 flywheel/3sgte pressure plate/clutch, and a custom mount for the intermediate axle bearing mechanically speaking. Let me know if you have any questions about the 5vz. Eventually Id like to put one of my 5vz's in my 94 celica but it will need a custom manifold maybe more. That day is pretty far off given my other projects.

well there you go, personally I wouldnt waste time on a 5VZ, its a heavy boat anchor. and it only makes 190 crank HP. the 1MZ is already a step up, lighter block and 200HP. the 3MZ setup like mine makes 220 HP and 240 TQ

There are some trick parts including complete motors available from nascar teams for the 5vz as it was used in the nascar dash series making almost 400hp NA. I bought built heads & TRD cams off a team for my motor build for a reasonable price and I am looking forward to seeing what it can do when I finally get it all together. I agree the with Smaay that mz blocks are a step up stock in weight/power/ease of swap in a 6th gen. I dont know how a 2gr figures into the equation but its been swapped into mr2s before. 5vzfe may not make alot of sense in a 6th gen.
