I was surfing around for a header for my 5f-se, and came across rediculous deals on these kits. I'm assuming it's because they are a total piece of junk, however, I figured I would post up and see if anyone has installed one of these.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/350868465407 I'm still leaning toward the 1mz swap myself, but maybe to keep me entertained until then I could add this, |

Contrary to popular belief SOME of the cheap turbos sold on ebay are good quality. I had a supra friend push 24 psi on one for over a year and then he took to it off it go bigger. Obviously not ALL ebay turbos are kits are good quality, but some can be.

Some can be good. But just looking at the design of the manifold puts me off.

'though I think the real problem, which I've seen in several threads around here is that the 5sfe isn't really built strong enough to take much turbo abuse.
unless you want to take the thing apart and put race components in the bottom n such. which after all I've read about the beams swaps, you just as well go ahead and put the 6cyl in it's probably easier. but if you're just looking for cheap thrills in the mean-time, and you've got money to play with wth you can another 5sfe down at pick-n-pull for $500 This post has been edited by VavAlephVav: Feb 8, 2014 - 10:27 PM -------------------- Bust a Deal; Face the Wheel.

which after all I've read about the beams swaps, you just as well go ahead and put the 6cyl in it's probably easier. Not by a long shot. The BEAMS is as easy as a swap gets. The 5S is actually a very boost-friendly motor, but tuning is an issue. I agree with with all of the above, if the end goal is a V6 or any other engine swap and you know when it will happen, then the turbo kit would be a good bit of fun. If I remember right, Manny used an Ebay turbo for his 5S-FTE, but even if he didn't I know several other members here have and had decent results. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. that particular "kit" is junk. manifold is horribly designed, piping and couplers are gonna be TOTALLLY usless.
only thing i'd use from that kit would be the turbo, and that would only be after a thorough inspection. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

The best ebay manifold is the cast iron one for the 3sgte. It'll hold up to best. Don't use the external wastegate port on it. Dumping exhaust off just 1 runner doesn't make for a reliable boost control setup.
eBay turbos are good if you know what you're getting yourself into beforehand. All eBay T3/T4 turbos should be opened, inspected, cleaned if need be and, if you want peace of mind, all internals replaced with garrett internals. For added insurance you should take it to have it balanced, even though most of these come balanced already. By the end of it all it'll still be cheaper than an upgraded CT26 or a "geniune" one (I used that word loosely since eBay t3/t4 really are just low-cost, old-design garrett turbos) -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

Well with sound advice, I'm leaning towards spending my money on the v6 parts instead for now.
My 94 hopefully will start the swap in the spring when I can get time in my brothers shop, and the dd stays bone stock. I was thinking of the turbo setup on my 99, but with only 97k miles probably should leave it factory for now. |
