Hello, Im trying to install an amp and a sub (both from the trunk) of my 97 ST celica.
My understanding is that I power the amp by wiring directly onto the red battery terminal, but my question is where in the firewall is there the most accessible hole to run the wire through? Let me know if I should do it this way, or just try to hook it up to my fuse box instead. My second question: to bridge 2 channels together, I'm using the + channel from the one and the - channel from the other, I think this is how you bridge, but im not too sure, this is my first attempt. I plan on doing this later today, so the quicker the feedback the more happier you guys would make me :-) Thanks for your time. Eric |

First thing is, do u have an amp install kit? It'll include everything you need. Youll want around 12gauge wire for the amp and use the excess for the ground. A "remote wire" so that when u turn ur deck on it'll turn the amp on, usually connects to power wire on deck.
Your power wire is going to be running directly from your amp to ur battery with an inline fuse. You will cut the power wire to do this and have at least a foot between the fuse and the battery. Bridging does include one + and one -, however not all amps are bridgable so be careful. Usually its the outside termals to use when u do this. In the firewall I used a hole on the drivers side where other wires already pass thru. Run your power line on one side and having no other wires running with it. If you have your RCA's runnign with it, its going to screw up your system and sound like crap. Run the RCA's thru the center console. Anything else just ask. What kind of amp are we talking about. Brand/model... Any descent amp needs wire bigger than 12ga. I use 12ga speaker wire for my subs. |

Some Questions and Problems for You to Answer:
#Question 1 No Power Coming to the Amp Im not even getting any power. I've tried replacing both amp and wire fuses, howerver I have not tried to get new wire. Is fuse 30 different from 30A? If so, I know thats the problem... if not, my guess is its because of the wire. ----------------------- ---- FACTS about my amp: -- --1) I know I have the right size wires because a pro place uninstalled it from the last car and kept all the wire they could. --2) I also know the sub is bridgable because its a 2 channel mixer (kicker) im not sure of the exact model but the previous owner had them bridged to support the 15" sub I also bought off him. ------------------------ #Question 2 Where should I ground the other wire too? I was just using a regular (wire to ground it... but know that you said something, it makes sense to use a 12 gauge wire... No Power Coming to the Amp
Im not even getting any power. I've tried replacing both amp and wire fuses, howerver I have not tried to get new wire. I'm having this problem now, my advice would be that maybe you have not grounded it correctly...although that hasn't solved my problem yet. If you have an update on that please let me know. |

Have you guys hooked up the remote turn on wire from your headunit to your amp. Since your amp is wired directly ot the battery it's got to be "told" when to come on either automaticly when the head unit comes on or manually with a switch between the acc connection in your fuse box and the amps remote terminal connection. This is so that the amp won't drain your battery when the car is off. Without power to the remote terminal on the amp it thinks the car is off and the amp won't turn on.

hmmm, i just connected the 2 rca wires that are included in my head unit and the power to the battery... wheres the remote wire go?

If you have an aftermarket deck you should have a wire specifically for that...should say "Remote Turn on" or "Remote Lead". Then hook it up to the "REM" wire or terminal on the amp.

If your head unit does not have it u can hook it up to your ignition wire on back of headunit or u can hook it up straight to the ignition fuse either way your amp will activate when ever u turn on your car.

depending on how much power you are using you may also want to consider upgrading the grounds (chassis and transmission) from your battery, you can otherwise prematurely kill the battery.
