just took my Distro cover off, as my ST has a bit of a judder when accelerating at lower revs and I;ve started to investigate...

Here's the rotor arm:

looks like a fair bit of corrosion. questions:

1. could this be the issue?

2. it needs replacing, right?

yep, electicity don't want to flow so easy through crusty stuff

probably need the cap as well , check the inside pins where the rotor makes contact with them

http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=91916

probably needs wires/plugs as well,

Appreciate it, my friend, I've ordered a new rotor arm. Will check the pins, but yeah, they're gonna be rough, aren't they. Plugs are fine and Ive looked into ordering Stock leads, no point going for NGK heavy duty, it's not a performance car, is it.

Should have her running smooth by the weekend.

will post pics of Distro cap pins and replace if necessary. Thanks for the link to the thread, I know what to look for now.

much nicer to work on a car that has a simple ignition system, I actually understand the process of ignition and combustion on a car like this!

Ya, mine runs SO much better with new plugs/wire/cap/rotor. You really notice the difference once you spin it up to 4-5k
And the people who told me to be sure and use ngk or Denso plugs were so right, even with copper plugs ngk is superior quality and what is recommended by Toyota.
I ordered it all on rockauto.com and got a super deal on everything

I've got some leads bookmarked, these: Bosch lifetime wires

and these: NGK 8128

But, tell you what, I'm glad you mentioned checking the points in the Distro Cap:

How rough do those posts look???!

So one of them is going on order as well...

Looking forward to smooth ignition, Plugs ordered too, NGK Iridium.

mine seems to be suddenly using a bit more fuel than it did before, I'm guessing that it's a good idea to pull the ecu and efi fuses to reset the computer after
the new ignition parts are installed.

The Rotor Arm arrived today, it looks different...

Is it gonna work, or is it gonna rip my Distro points to shreds? How can I check without turning the engine over?

Just put it back to back with the one on there now and make sure it's the same length, it should be ok as long as it is.

New Distro fitted today, matched Rotor arm up to existing rotor as suggested by Bitter, and

Boom! no judder at junctions, power delivery smooth as hell, feels like a big change in response. I know 75% of perceived improvement is psychological, but good grief, it's definitely made a difference.

Just waiting for NGKs and Plug leads to finally get here, then Cold Air intake next...
