I had a pretty nice 95 Celica convertible with 230k miles. I just smashed into a deer with it. I found a 97 Celica ST with 150k miles for $500 with a blown engine. I am going to buy it and swap some stuff around to get a working car. My questions is, would you guys use the convertible or the ST?
The convertible needs -Front bumper -Fenders -Hood -Airbags -Windshield The ST needs the whole drivetrain replaced, since it has a 7afe and will be getting a 5sfe. Both are manual. So in case I didn't make the question clear, take the parts from the st and put it in the convertible, or take the drivetrain from the convertible and put it in the st? I think that is a matter of taste. Personally I like the coupe better, so I would say to go with the coupe. Plus it may not have hit a deer and compromised the cars structural integrity. If you like the convertible better and the car is fine after the fix then stay with it. |

the GT was the one smashed and you want to put the ST drive train in it? thats a major downgrade and its not a direct bolt in.

If the cars structure is fine, then I'd much rather swap the front end then do an engine swap. If you want a coupe/hatchback you could always try to find a GT with a bad motor to swap. It would be much easier than swapping in a 5s into a ST.

Swap the engine into the ST. It's not worth the hassle, plus I believe the fenders and doors for the vert are different than that of a hatch or coupe.

I've been searching for an airbag replacement tutorial but I can't really find one. Any help?
