Ok so I have a 95 celica gt , and it stalled on me for the first time. I was at a drive tru engine sounding good I stepped on the gas and it instantly died no hesitation tried to turn it on the starter worl but engine would not turn. I tried 3 times before I called a tow truck. In the evening I tried again and it turned on so I left it running to see if it would stall and sure enough 20-25 minutes later same thing did not start till after a hour. Can u guys tell me what can cause this by the way I have a check engine code 12.

See if the CEL illuminates when the key is turned to on with the engine not running (while the car is acting up)

Check for spark, you can ground a plug wire or spray starter fluid into the intake to verify this.

Test the primary and secondary resistance on the coil with a multimeter. When coils fail they will sometimes intermittently fail when they get hot.

Check your ground wires

You can use a noid light on an injector to check the ECU, and a fuel pressure tester to check the fuel pump. Both these tools will be available for loan at your local discount autoparts store.

Of course all checks should be while the symptoms are present.

Yup its the pickup in the distributor. They should be marked in the diagnostic port. If you set your multimeter to measure continuity you should get a beeping sound when the engine is rotating.

Im living off of North 820 and 35 now, I have time off at the beginning of the week if you need a hand.

@medina95gt Hmm, it sounded like a faulty ignition coil. Autozone or OReilly should of been able to test the coil for you with a multimeter, you can also check the magnetic pickup with a multimeter.

Must be all the rain we got.
