$490 is a pretty good price. I'd recommend going for the 101 grind with 1zz buckets and 2jz crower valve springs. You can get a set of cheap buckets from a junkyard head and give the head to your local machine shop to have it "calibrated" for less work and cost than what it is getting them new most likely.

This is very very tempting... but I can't afford this right now sadly frown.gif

Ive been swayed away from that by a couple of the MR2 5s guru's kindasad.gif

Fyi I had a header, bad head gasket and a cat in the exhaust. I tuned with a safc neo and a wideband. If I had a good motor and free flowing exhaust I would have gained more power overall.
Great price imo.
Not simple to install, fyi.

Cool. I should go around the same numbers. Installation isn't simple but nothing really is simple when there's tons of bolts and torque specs and clearance specs to worry about. Lol. Just got to take your time and do it right.

Yea cheaper but it doesn't give me the power curve I want. I want to get rid of that stupid power drop. Colt cams doesn't solve that issue in the 5sfe.

Neither do 294 Webcams. As long as the grind is the same, the results will be the same.

To get rid of the power drop past 4500 RPMs you need more aggressive cams, a better flowing intake manifold with a larger throttle body and possibly a port job on the head.

I went onto Colt's website and the 5sfe isn't listed anymore so I'll have to check on that but here's the two cams with different profiles. Both from the 5sfe. The colt makes more torque but the power curve is still similar to the stock curve. The webcams has more hp and the power curve keeps on going until close to redline.

Colt Cams:
- intake .311 lift, 254 degree in duration, 211 duration @.050
- exhaust .318 lift, 254 degree in duration, 211 duration @.050

Web Cams:

- lift .322 duration 244° (duration @.050) 218°

That's the reason the cams act differently. The colt cams are milder than the webcams (less lift & duration), and they are closer fitted to the stock ones. If you could get colt cams to replicate the exact specs, it'd be the same power.

The colt cams are easier to install too, because they don't do a weld and regrind for these mild grinds. They to a regrind and make up for the difference with copper shims under the bucket shims. That's the main reason why they're cheaper most likely, too.

You should talk to somebody at Colt Cams, maybe they'll do group buys as well and replicate the cams. I'd be down if the price is a lot less than the webcams most definitely, and they're easier to install too which is a plus.

So wouldn't it be easier with the webcams? All you do is drop the cams in and measure valve clearance and replace the shims back into spec?

Web Cams most of the time require replacing several shims. Colt Cams on the other hand, since only a regrind is done, the clearances are mostly left untouched. You might have to replace one or two shims. Web Cams could require replacing all of them if you're not lucky at all.

If its just a regrind then wouldn't it not have as much lift as the hardweld/regrind? All you can really get from regrind is more duration. Thats my guess at least.

Welding to regrind allows them to do a larger cam (more aggressive) overall. Their regrind-only procedure cuts into the stock base circle, but they make up for the difference with the spacer shims. They are less aggressive but also less expensive to make.

You could talk to someone @ Colt Cams and ask to see what it would cost for a custom grind similar to the Web Cams and compare prices.

$490 is a pretty good price for Web Cams, though, but you might find them cheaper.
