Once you remove the oil filter you will expose the oil cooler located behind it. You will need a 30mm socket (available for loan at autoparts stores as 30mm axle socket) to unscrew the nut on the threaded shaft the oil filter screws onto. Next remove the 10mm nut to the righthand side of the oil cooler. You should now be able to remove the oil-cooler assembly in order to replace the two o-rings. You may need to undo the two small coolant hoses attached to the oil cooler but you may be able to replace the orings without detatching these hoses. I think the orings were ~$5 from the toyota dealership, they come as a set and I wasnt able to find them from any other source.
Most mechanics wont charge anything less than 1 hour labor so $100 while steep isnt a bad price. Oil can also leak from the oil pan gasket and run UP the front of the motor due to the wind. Oil cooler gasket leaks will leak a lot quicker due to the oil pressure and could also cause the oil pump to lose its prime(which would make the oil light stay illuminated several seconds longer than normal once the car is first started) This post has been edited by Special_Edy: May 8, 2014 - 12:01 AM |
