Howdy yall, i got a 94 ST and im looking to put a new motor into it, i was one with VVTI, and was thinking about the 1mz with VVTI, and thoughts on this if it will be a easy swap? I can fabricate most small things i need, mounts ect. Any feedback is appreciated.

I can fabricate most small things i need, mounts ect. Any feedback is appreciated. There are a couple threads on the forum detailing the swap of a 1mz into a 6gc. If you use the search function you should find a few easy enough. The biggest issue you are going to have is that the 1mz is compatible with the GT drivetrain, not the ST drivetrain. You're going to need either an E153 transmission(recommended) from a manual camry, solara or MR2 turbo OR a S54 transmission from a Celica GT. You also need axles, they will be hybrid axles if you opt for the E153. You will need GT or GT4 motor mounts to bolt the transmission in, and a custom fabricated mount for the front of the 1mz to mount to the frame/wheel-well of the car. The exhaust will need to be custom fabricated. You will need a 1mz flywheel and 3SGTE clutch. Finally you will have to either buy or create an engine harness to splice the 1mz's wiring harness and ecu into the existing celica harness. A standalone ecu is also an option but more work (you need to get it dyno tuned and the vvti wont work). There are some other considerations like the fuel pump, shifter cables, radiator but these arent as great of hurdles. Its a lot of work. You could also consider a 4AGE swap, it wont have quite the power and the motor itself will cost more, but it would mate to your existing drivetrain. |

go for it, its fairly easy considered most of the leg work has been done by smaay, kurt and others.
do what you want, not what others tell you. sure there are other options, but not many V6 swaps aound here. -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... I hardly log in anymore, last login Today Sept 6 2019, and I was forced just to clarify a post. LOL

Go all out, ST is no limitation, just a moderately more expensive hurdle.

just a slight correction to Edy post.
you cant use the MR2 turbo trans unless you modify the shift selector and the linkage. its on the wrong side. if you want a E153, get one from a Camry or Solara. -------------------- 2001 Celica GT-S Turbo

Thanks for the info, if i went v6 it would be to turbo it and i dont know how much space that would leave me in there, if any at all. I plan on starting something up with my celica soon though. I might stick with a beams, money is a bit of an issue, i just have to work and save so it might be a slow project.

V6 has been pretty cheap to me I got all the parts together for maybe 2900 or so maybe more. I'm really low-balling the spending because I still need to pay for the tranny however there is other members that got all the parts for 1900 more or less. I guess it just depends on the place your buying them from and how much do you know about what your buying and doing. the more you know works in your advantage so do your research and get the right parts for a good price. I'm still not done with my car but hopefully soon and I will build a page of every expense and also show the project and progress alright I hope you make up your mine and whatever you decide at the end of the day it is your choice and if you want horsepower I go for the 1mzfe but since I live in California smog regulations didn't allow the swap for a 3sgte so I'm doing a 1mzfe and like that I can legally smog my vehicle and do what normal people do with there cars lol
If your planing on installing a turbo I'm sure its possible but I'm not sure how much space you will have to play around in your engine bay. I've seen one celica what the v6 swap and it looks like there is pretty good space however to think about it there might be a few problems with the exhaust manifold and that space there. I would research if I was you. There is the supercharge that can be installed? but the turbo sounds like a much better idea. good luck I hope you make a good choice =) |
