I plan on installing a Google Nexus 7 2 in my car after i've finished with a friends car so i have a full infotainment centre in there. done plenty of research and have come up with a couple of design ideas for it (but that is a story for another time) one of the things i want the tablet in there for is so i can connect my phone or tablet via bluetooth to the OBD and get basic digital speedo/mpg/other crap. this where i am having a problem.
this may sound like a silly question and probably get dismissed very quickly. its also a long shot... my OBD port is located under the hood. i am pretty sure it is an OBD1 port. when i put the connector in (via a lexus diagnostic tool extension cable) i cant close the hood. is it possible to relocate the obd port (fairly easily) into the car? or better yet... can i change the port to the obd 2 port and install it somewhere in the car? has it been done before? insight on the subject would be very helpful. p.s i may need the top half of the centre console trim for a RHD lol This post has been edited by MisterRay: Jun 12, 2014 - 6:59 PM -------------------- ![]() "whoever said progress was a slow process... was probably talking about me" |

I have my 2din sony uninstalled for the same reason.
An android device that can play everything, connect to the internet, gps and so many applications like the torque app. All you need is a cheap obd to bluetooth adapter. ![]() you are going to need the console trimmed if you want it to fit properly. I didn't know where the obd port was and I haven't thought about that problem. ![]() How many inches is the nexus display and how are you planning to install it MisterRay? |

I cant do that because crime rate is high in my area and I dont want to be replacing tablets every other week. for both of these methods I would still relocate my head unit to either the glove box or near my steering wheel. (can fibreglass a cover for cage) this is because my head unit is Bluetooth so regardless of where it is positioned it will connect to the nexus. sound quality will still be excellent. aux ports are rubbish -------------------- ![]() "whoever said progress was a slow process... was probably talking about me" |

I thought the opposite was going to happen the magnets idea is very nice. I am going to borow it too. ![]() |

Yeah. you can actually hear the difference between Bluetooth and aux lol plus my head unit allows me to connect a lot of Devices at once without an issue so it's perfect.
I'm on this forum to take and share ideas so borrow whatever you like lol jus let me know how it turns out if u give it a go. I have to wait till mid July before I start as I get the tablet as a bday present unfortunately. -------------------- ![]() "whoever said progress was a slow process... was probably talking about me" |

as far as i knew there isnt and odb1 to odb2 coversion option you have to upgrade to a stand alone or use a piggyback system then use there connectors even if you can get a converter like a serial connection cable there still isnt an app that you can use to read anything from an odb1 system if you can solve all the other problems though i can make the app so basiclly if yall can figure out how to send the signal from the odb1 to bluetooth ill write the app for it
