Im looking to swap my engine for a new one. My current 5sfe engine is leaking oil and it has almost 400,000km on it. with that said I am wondering what swap would be easier: 3sge 3sgte or the beams engine. I am also wondering if a clutch from a 5sfe engine will fit any three of the engines listed? thank you for your time.

Beams is the easiest swap. As for clutch I think batman said this in one thread.
QUOTE you would need a 3s or resurfaced beams flywheel and 3s pressure plate, with a 5s disk and throw out bearing (hybrid kit) Here's more info on the beams. I'm eventually going with a beams due to easy of swap and reliability. http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=91467 This post has been edited by 1994Celica: Aug 9, 2014 - 8:34 PM -------------------- |

Will my S54 tranny fit this engine or not? Can it fit? Probably but my guess is that it would take some fabrication to fit it. I don't know why you would want to put the blacktop in when you can get a redtop for similar money with an lsd that will bolt right in. I know a lot of the black top would have to be changed to make it fwd. If you want a Beams then get a redtop that bolts right in. it will fit the altezza motor, but you'll have to make a custom passenger mount, and you'll need a lot of internal parts as well as the intake manifold from the beams redtop to make it work. get the redtop its 10 times easier then mixing and matching parts

This is the dual VVTI engine thats 207hp. but i don't want a headache I just want a easier install. I'm not sure what the difference from the single vvti and the dual vvti would make since its only 10hp more. I'm guessing just a quicker acceleration?

10 hp will barely be noticeable. You'll know it's there if you are able to drive a Redtop and Blacktop in the exact same car back to back but otherwise you'll never know it's there. More importantly, the Blacktop will be a pain to swap in, and a money pit. You'll need to buy a Blacktop and a Redtop, and strip the Redtop for parts. The intake manifold and header from the blacktop will not fit in a Celica, nor will the mounts. Plus you'd need to either pay to have the Blacktop harness set up for the Celica or use a Redtop harness, which will still likely need work to fit a Blacktop. It's way too much work and money just for a measly 10 hp. The dual VVT-i is more or less just for emissions. The extra 10 hp from the Blacktop is from the increased compression. The Redtop is by far an easier swap, almost plug and play, and bolts right up to the GT motor mounts, trans, and axles, and many Redtops came with an LSD trans.

perfect!! I found a red top with LSD for $1250 in Montreal witch is only 3hour away. The guy says he has 2 of them and they have 80,000 KM roughly. Any thing I should look for when purchasing the engine that might tell me if its a lemon or in bad shape? It includes wiring harness, ECU and MAF sensor! anything else I would need to set this up? my stock intake is gone off my 5s. You said something about the intake needing to be stock or the engine will not like it.
Thanks -------------------- |

I believe its been done before and there have been threads on it. If you're wanting to swap you really need to go out there and search. Go out and read up on each engine, and decide what you want.
