I have heard that the 94 ecu has got its problems. So I was wondering what other ecu options there were when it came to replacing one. I know the model #'s are different but does anyone know if that matters? A 5SFE ecu should "in theory" be similar from year to year with only engine options being a bit different.

So what ECU's are inner changeable with each other?

'94-95 are the same as they're OBDI, '96-99 are the same as they're OBDII. The '90-93 might also work, being it's the same engine and OBDI but it's something you'd have to look into. If your car is running fine as it is I wouldn't worry about it, just keep an eye out for a '95.

ya I've been looking through lots of wiring diagrams the past week and its made me absolutely batty. The pins on the Ecu change each time, the 94 95 seem similar but I don't think All of the pins on the ECU are in the same spots, maybe if you had to you could rewire the plug to match but you'd need the real Factory service manual for each one to be sure its right. and that BGB on celicatech is not always exactly right (or at least not congruent with the other books ive seen).
and I also have a manual for the 5sfe that looks like it was for 5th gen and the pins on the ecu don't seem the same either.
I'd agree it would be best to pick up one for a 95 just to be sure. just watch for people parting out the stock stuff when they Swap in the 3sgte or something. that way you should be able to get a good one for $50-60
I think im going to pick one up even though mines not bad. just so that if it does go out ill have one sitting on the shelf. Gts aren't common in the salvage yard.

Here are the links to the wiring diagrams I found for this just incase you need them

this one is a real Toyota Electrical Wiring diagram, even in color smile.gif
https://sites.google.com/site/resource6gc/Home
https://sites.google.com/site/resource6gc/st202-4--resources

and these are some BGB links from celicatech
http://www.celicatech.com/bgbonline/94_6gm...ge%20charts.pdf
http://bgbonline.celicatech.com/93celica/fi/voltohmmeter.pdf

and a how-to de-pin the ecu plug
http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=92693

What I did find consistent was the color of the Wires from year to year So even if you're not sure of which pin number a circuit should be on you can just look for the color
