Oh you! Speaking of it, have you ever posted pictures of it? I can't recall. Don't feel too bad, I've thought about getting a 924/944 for the same reason. They don't have to know WHICH Porsche that it is, just that it's A Porsche. This post has been edited by Box: May 2, 2015 - 10:07 PM -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Looking at different rims that're out there and apparently Cragar makes some that are 15" tall by 14" wide and of course Hoosier obliges them with a tire:

I was thinking it'd just skip over water at that point. There are a lot of options though as far as doing tire and rim sizes. Classic muscle and hot rod rims, tires, and setups and then things more along the lines of resto-modding and pro-touring. It's crazy having so many options.

Well the low rolling resistance should help the fuel economy.

I've been leaning towards 17x9's with close to stock wheel diameter. I need to get around to compiling information on doing a 5/6-speed manual conversion on the second gens. I'm sure there's plenty of info for the T56 but they're pricey, the T5 should last not ragging it out all of the time. That and changing the final ratio and still need to work out the carb if I'm seriously keeping. If I could get into the low 20's I'd be happy.

They don't have to know WHICH Porsche that it is, just that it's A Porsche. Here's one. And I don't feel bad I've actually wanted on since I was young. I remember looking at one with my dad when I was quite young and I just fell in love with it. I always played NFS Porsche Unleashed so I could drive one. -------------------- |

It's almost like Porsche used the roof off a Mercedes sedan. What gives.

Good to hear you had a good day. Don't feel bad, I stopped after the second or third one. Everyone has a blue Subaru though, though that one darker shade they have is quite nice.
So I went to readjust the choke today as I hadn't since January or so, and of course what should've taken five minutes took about an hour. The lockdown ring had seized to the choke cap for some reason. Of course it was hotter than three Hells thanks to heat-soak and the glaring sun. I am happy to say so far temperatures are staying a steady 195-200º even while stationary and it's been in the 80's lately. It seems like the engine was fairly solidly built by the shop that did it. I also noticed oil pressure has been staying high while warmed up as well, I suppose the leaking valve covers were responsible for the pressure drop-off once warm. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Clayed some more of the Mazda and hand rubbed some scratches down, I really need a DA and some pads to cut the paint down to a good high gloss again.
Found the fuel leak on the tank of the Mazda and ordered a new fuel tank, been looking for that for a year now (the leak, not a new tank). Got the spinny bits off my aunties decorative wind mill to take to the shop to strip, de-rust, paint, and install new bearings in. I'll tack weld a washer in a couple places to take up some slack on some parts so it'll keep working correctly for another couple decades. Clayed the Mazda some more. -------------------- |

Cheap DA from Wally-World clearance has worked out well enough, certainly better than doing by hand. Keep an eye out at Sears, Wally-World, or the parts houses for one. Maybe Amazon and/or its warehouse section, or eBay.
So I found something I've wanted for the Firebird, but I'm not saying until I have it for sure tomorrow. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Supercharger!
Yea, I need to keep an eye out for a good one on sale somewhere but I shot my wad on the fuel tank for a couple weeks and bought a m-itx board for a htpc I'm piecing together. Have everything but the case which is picked out and video card which I'm still up in the air about, and a bluray drive. -------------------- |

Would have to redo the engine for that, though it'd be nice. It's not anything huge, but it's a step in making it how I want the car.
I suppose the tank was beyond repairing then? In any case it's always better just to replace I suppose in those instances as it's probably ready to start leaking somewhere else. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

When I replaced the fuel pump a year or two ago one of the 8 or 10 little screws that held the pump in broke off, seized from rust, despite soaking in penetrating oil and even heating it. So I had no choice but to reassemble and thought it would be ok. Started smelling gas when filled full a few months later, been getting worse when full, so this last time I filled it full and parked it in my garage for a week and finally was able to see that yes, it is leaking from the top of the tank and down the front. A slow leak but a leak. Not even enough to set an evap code when the fuel level is back down, I could keep limping it by never putting a full tank in it but that's a royal pain in the ass and at some point when it's the worst time will become a more serious problem I'm sure. It's summer, weather is nice, I can drive the Celica while I fix the Mazda.

Odd one screw with that many others would be enough to cause an issue. That's Murphy for you though.

Yep. Just grabbed a big can of spray truck bed coating to coat the outside of the tank with and then I'll coat the top and bottom with sound deadening spray rubber so no pump noise, no rust, no sloshing sounds. Better than new!
