Because everyone needs a low-beam headlight in their trunk!
My brother has had good luck running SMD strips. Nice and bright and it doesn't burn your hair when you lean in to grab something. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Today I saw Porsche 918. It was driving by as I was walking into work. It looked beautiful, and sounded fantastic

Ended up saying fruck it and bought a Wix air filter from O'Reilley's for a few more than off RockAuto, was able to to get the air cleaner and ducting routed before the sky decided to open up. Of course it had to be a pain and I had to make a spacer so the cleaner would clear the fuel inlet on the carb, then trying to do that the cheap Fram fuel filter element came unglued from the housing so had to go and replace that too. Needless to say all is well with the world now. Went from a tiny 9"x2" open element to a 12"x3.5" enclosed filter with a snorkel running to the front of the bumper.

Should be at least 100º cooler air being ingested now, even on really hot days. Have the ducting going down the fender and around the core support with the opening next to the turn signal/parking lamp. It'll also get some charged air, but I doubt it'll help too much lazing along at 55 mph.
Even at idle I can feel it sucking air through all the ducting, I find it amusing. This post has been edited by Box: May 17, 2015 - 1:24 PM -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

That should help out a lot! You may even be able to use mid grade fuel or tune it a little leaner on 93.

I'll probably just stay on 93 since our pumps only offer 87, 89, and 93 and the hassle of mixing isn't worth saving a dime or so per gallon. That and all the experimenting to see how low I could go, better off staying on 93 and knowing I'll be ok. I will reset the mixture though I doubt it'll change too much as the hood is open obviously when you're in there messing with things so it's not sucking incredibly hot air then.
Dug up my project thread here and will be updating it with a few pictures here soon. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Talked with the body shop that repaired mom's car, and he said I'd just be better off selling the Miata than rebuilding it. Which is what I figured anyway. So I cleaned it off and put it up for sale. Free up some space and money that's just sitting there otherwise.

It was leaking around the taillights. -------------------- |

Without fail I put the Miata up for sale and I have people asking about the Firebird... I figured it would happen, but not immediately.
Should've used that duct seal stuff I posted, now if you ever have to remove them you'll hate yourself. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

I did use too much. I don't think it'll be too hard to remove them.

You want butyl sealant, bake the lights open and reseal them.

If it's the lenses leaking then yes butyl is the way to go as it was what was used originally. From the way it sounded it was leaking past the lights into the trunk area, in which case the stuff I posted works great.

Fuel injection may be a giant pain in the ass when it goes wrong, but carburetors are a pain in the ass even when they're working. Had trouble starting yesterday and noticed the choke had backed off so I reset it. Had trouble again today, the choke had backed off yet again. For some reason the choke hold down is loose even with the screws tightened all the way, the exact opposite issue I had about a month ago... So I said fruck it and used a washer to shim it and hold it in place, won't back off again. Between that and fuel continually increasing in price I'd straight up trade for a stock LT1 at this point.
