Doesn't work that way if the light doesn't sit flat on the car.

Who's crazy enough to do something like that? I just do the beam height being equal to the middle of the light from the ground from 25 feet away. So if it's 30" from the ground to the middle of the light on the car, 25 feet away the beam is 30" off the ground. Old fashioned perhaps but gets the job done.

Actually I will. These lamps are stamped with 1.2% on the sides which indicates something about the aiming of them. I'd like to get them aimed correctly so when I do wire up the manual height adjustment switch zero is actually zero. What I'd love to do is find some way to make it an automatic height adjustment system.

Might look into repurposing an o.e. system perhaps. All I know is that gyroscopes are involved.

Trying to decide how much to list the Firebird for, don't want to list it too high and seem cheeky and put people off but at the same time I don't want to shoot myself in the foot. Somewhere in the $4,000-4,5000 OBO range maybe. I don't know about others but if I see a car that's considerably more than what I'd be willing to pay I just keep going, because I don't want to insult someone even if they're way off the mark. Obviously that's not an issue for some now that I think about it. Really the biggest problem is actually selling it, it was hard enough selling the Miata. It was hard selling the Celica, I really didn't want to but I did because I told him if he came up with the money I would. The Firebird will be the hardest yet, I've always wanted one and even though it's a pain in the ass at times and even knowing everything that'll be needed to make it how I want it I still love the car. That and the lingering fear of not being able to find what I want after I sell it doesn't help either.

Maybe, not even there yet. Don't need a gyro, they have that stuff in wafer form these days. Looks like all the Koito head lights use the same leveling motor though so I can probably use something made for a Lexus to get auto leveling to work somehow, but no idea how I would calibrate it. Koito makes lights for Toyota, Mazda, etc so somewhere is something.

Might try and see if some service manuals have the calibrating procedures outlined.

Went ahead and wrote up a listing for eBay, suppose will get pictures later and will list tonight. I dunno part of me wants to fix it and keep it but I know deep down I need something that gets at least mid 20's and has A/C, that and is a manual. Still not entirely sure on what to get next either. Liking all kinds of cars, but at the same time a select type, is a burden at times.

Got the other light finished up, realized I need distilled water to install the protective films but I don't feel like going out to get that so I'll do the films during the week. I can put them in the basement under the heat lamp to accelerate the drying out of moisture under the films, it's very similar to installing tint. Thicker and harder to get around curves though so the big bulges will be fun to play with. I'm not looking forward to that but better than getting little stone dimples and hazing on the OEM HID lamp lenses!

Video finally showed up and added it to the listing. Figured it could only help my case by showing how easy it starts cold and how well it runs.

Got to thinking, I could buy a really nice NB Miata with a hardtop and supercharger or turbocharger. I only wish they were bigger though. I'm trying to think if I had more shoulder room in my uncle's NB over my NA, but if there was it couldn't have been by much. My brother said something about a S2000 perhaps, but I want to say a decent example is still a couple of grand out of my range. That and I don't think they're all that much bigger anyway. If only Toyota had offered a manual behind the 1UZ in the SC, then I'd be set. This is all their fault! I saw a nice '98 SC400 with 150K miles sold on eBay for $3,000 which is a bargain as it was in nice shape and 150K miles is nothing. My family keeps telling me to stop being a stubborn ass and just get a SC400 since it's everything I want in a car aside from the manual transmission I really shouldn't be using anyway. That's not how it works though. I wish manual swapped ones were more commonplace as I'm in no condition to do it myself. Then again there's always the 4th gen F-body with the PlaySkool interior I could nicen up myself... Gah I don't know what to do, and I'm already second guessing selling the Firebird. Damn it all I hate my inability to make decisions.

One of our customers just died, she had a pristine SC400, black on black with low miles. I can find out some more about it if you're seriously interested? I think it had under 100K miles.

Box get a sc400. Compromise on the transmission. I think it'll be the best compromise.

I'm not too happy with automatics at the moment and I really just don't like them though. If I were to get a SC400 it'd be the '98-00 model for the VVT and 5-speed auto. Maybe if it's like the older transmissions and if you're in 1 it won't leave 1 until you go to 2, etc... and so forth and if you're in 5 and bump into 3 it goes into 3. More or less if it acted like a clutchless manual it might not be so bad, but I seem to recall reading in a SC400 manual that the 4-speed at least doesn't act that way.

'98 SC400 in Royal Sapphire Pearl with black interior, I could get past the auto at that point:
Also just found the owner's manual for the '98 model and with the shift gate it'll let you manually shift it'd seem, upshifting and downshifting... Well, I'll start thinking about it... I'd still prefer a real manual though and a light clutch doesn't really bother me, like the one in the Miata. The clutch in the LS1 F-body is just as light, and the LT1 F-body was a tad lighter than what was in the Celica. Supra and SC300 would be ok too, as would a 280ZX I'd imagine. MR2 would also work out or another Miata, and I guess the 240SX as well. This post has been edited by Box: Jul 27, 2015 - 12:28 AM -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed
