Just buy a car you do not have to work on it I second that emotion. Still think you need an sc400 -------------------- |

Won't have to work on a well maintained LT1 car, no more than the SC400 or any other car. Suspension is something I'll want to do with any of them though. If I could manually shift the SC400 all of the time I'd consider it more, but according to the ones that own it you shouldn't do that.

I tossed a couple quick coats of metalcast red on the cracked and pitted Celica front emblem to see how the paint lays and works and how much I need to lay to get a good gloss.
I mounted my new Celica dome light, I cut the damn aluminum crooked though because I can't find my square. I need to get another one or something, but the angle works well except I wanted to thermal epoxy the aluminum tube to the dome to help heatsink it. Instead because of the angle I needed to use foam tape to get the space needed, good enough for now though. This guy does great dome lights, not cheap but super high quality! http://www.sprengboard.com/ Quick dried the metalcast in the oven and stuck it on the car, darker than I wanted but it looks nice. Where it was sanded the metalcast is lighter so I may hit the new emblem with some base silver then red over it to lighten it some. I'm not sure, I also kind of dig the subdued dark red shade though. ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by Bitter: Aug 5, 2015 - 8:41 PM -------------------- |

I like it, makes it pop without being obvious. If that makes any sense.

Yep! Old color was flat black which I also liked. I need to grab some clear, reading online reveals that this metalcast paint is pretty soft and will chip/scratch very easily. I'll strip this emblem down and hit it with some metalcast base and then red over that to see how it turns out, that will probably make it a brighter red. I only stuck it on with 3 small dabs of silicone so it comes off easily but won't fall off.

WOOOOOOO TURBO!!!!!
Today I didn't leave the recliner unless I had to. Damn thunderstorm kicked my ass, I'm officially old now... I used to really like thunderstorms, not so much anymore... Up to 670 views and 12 watchers now. The more I look at fourth gens the more I start to be ok with selling the '79. Already figured out the suspension I want for it, Strano springs with Koni struts/shocks. Will do that and probably the exhaust from the cat back but that's it initially. If someone made short-mid length headers for the fourth gen I'd get them, but all I've seen so far are long-tubes. I'd like to get some leather or good vinyl to wrap the hard plastic pieces, make things a little more upscale. Oh, would redo the audio system too I suppose since I already have a stereo and speakers. Might do some other suspension pieces later down the road, and would like to get some better front seats into it as well sooner than later. Well, I know the Camaro seats my brother ended up putting into his '80 weren't that great but perhaps the ones in a Firebird will be better. I know the Firebird leather seats have powered bolsters, so there's hope I suppose. This post has been edited by Box: Aug 7, 2015 - 1:48 AM -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

50 more views and another watcher, still nothing yet.
Decided can live with T-tops if the car is in black or one of the shades of blue, teal, or purple. Rather have a T-top car in one of those colours than a hardtop car in red or one of the other colours I'd just be content with like white, pewter, or silver. Was just a matter of aesthetic preference with the fourth gen anyway, since they're all cutout for T-tops from the factory and the "hardtop" is just a composite panel sealed into place. It'll just be the Miata all over again and they'll never be removed. ![]() -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Just had someone that's supposedly from New York send an offer, but under their ZIP it says they're in Bahrain... They've been a member since 2010 and have bought some things in the last month oddly enough from Summit Racing and Camaro World. So I have no idea what's going on there. I'm about to the point of saying to Hell with it and figuring out some way of fixing the damn transmission. All these watchers and no one messaging or sending offers is pissing me off, it's not an auction so what's the point if you're not wanting to buy it?

Had RS3s mounted on wheels, went to mount onto car and I have three tires in one direction and one in the other. Shop was not apologetic but offered to fix.

Sometimes I watch things just to see what they go for. Anyway have you tried Craigslist? On a BIN OBO it just shows that a best offer was accepted though if the BIN isn't done, so you have no idea as to what it sold for. Haven't bothered with CL on this one, as it's never done me any good before. Plus as I learned with the Miata they apparently have smarter bots now that can click the contact info tab and pull the number. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

It might be worth a shot. Honestly in your case you probably need to get rid of the car.

If it weren't for the idiot that rebuilt the trans I wouldn't be in this situation. With it properly rebuilt or some kind of manual conversion it'd be fine outside of its thirst for fuel and the lack of A/C. Which a lot of people wouldn't care about.

Eh for a daily driver I would want ac and something more modern that doesn't require much work.

The only thing it really requires is the trans, was driving until it died. Supposedly '81-89 or so C-10/20 trucks and G-10/20 vans came with an overdrive 4-speed manual based off the old Chrysler A-833. If I could find one of those in Pull-A-Part that'd be great, but supposedly they're rare. Apparently even use the same yoke as a TH350, would have to go to a higher rear gear though for it to be perfect with the .73 4th gear. The other trans is a granny 4-speed which could be used with my 2.41 rear as a 3-speed, could use the 6.55 1st for pushing passenger's kidneys through the seat I guess. 2nd is 3.58, 3rd is 1.7, and 4th is 1 so with the 2.41 rear it'd work.
Outside of that you're looking at Borg Warner and Muncie transmissions out of Camaros and Corvettes that are unlikely to be found in Pull-A-Part these days and just going off forums and online markets they're not cheap at all. At least the others could be found for cheap in the yard with decent luck. Easiest thing would be to throw in another TH350 or rebuild the one in it. Regardless it'll be worth more being able to do more than creep forward and have reverse. This post has been edited by Box: Aug 8, 2015 - 1:23 AM -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Trying one more time on eBay, if no one buys it this time I'll try and find somewhere to either repair or convert the transmission. The easiest thing to do would be to just buy a used transmission for $200 or so and then swap them in a couple of hours, but then I'm rolling the dice on a used most likely original components transmission. If I did that I'd only do it for the TH-350C which has a lockup converter that I'd wire in manual control and that'd help with fuel economy on the highway. The cheapest option would be buying the ATP master kit for $75 shipped off Amazon, with the way I drive a fresh o.e.m. rebuild would probably be fine anyway. Plus from what I read by one guy he was saying if it were streetable and you weren't racing it all of the time you don't need the higher performance frictions and steels anyway. Even then the top end Alto master kit with red frictions and kolene steels is $220 shipped off eBay.

Take it off ebay. Replace transmission. Put it on ebay as a working car. With a spare tranny. Ebay is not a good place for old people. Mostly kids watch ebay. And they dont want to dool with repairs.
