After weeks of ****ing around with different kinds of T10 LED bulb and being frustrated that none were pointing the way I wanted them to point for the Celica I finally fixed the problem. I figured out what indexed the bulb socket in the housing and modified it so I could put the socket in turned 90 degrees to point the bulb where I wanted it. Problem solved!

It's always more of a pain than what it should be with getting the right LED's for a given application.

Sometimes, usually only when it's some weird application. And for me sometimes it's a weird application, it just took me a while to take a step back and approach the problem from a different angle, but once I did I had it solved in about 10 minutes. It also helped I had a couple headlights taken apart so I could see inside and figure out how things worked.

Rest of the LED's on the Celica have been mostly trouble free, dome light, tails, turns, brake lights, side markers, all no issues. Only sticky widget were these front parking lights or whatever in the high beam bowls. A couple little trims with an exacto knife and problem solved though! They're bright enough to make the car more visible at night since the whole high beam bowl glows beneath the low beam projector and even can make the car more visible on a cloudy day when the low beams are off. I might wire the parking light circuit to just be on whenever the engine is running, maybe tap off the fuel pump relay trigger.

I was wanting to do LED's and more modern lighting in general with the Firebird, but even then it was lower down on the priority list of things wanting to modernize.

Also apparently someone dropped by yesterday while my brother was outside working on his car and offered to sell me a Chevrolet TH350 for $75, but then he didn't think to get his name or number... kindasad.gif

Nah he wouldn't do that, hopefully the guy drops by again. Even if I don't end up keeping it, getting it moving forward again will make it infinitely easier to sell. I could drive it until Summer rolls around again unless I somehow get the A/C working again.

Got my gear puller, got the new door lock motor installed in the actuator, got it glued and clamped, I'll reassemble it all tomorrow evening. Don't have the focus to do it tonight. Maybe I'll get the driver side done this weekend. It'll be nice to have working power door locks on the Celica again!

While the doors are apart I'm going to put in a little sound damping material and some foam behind the woofers to help things sound a little better. I'll probably see about fixing the door handle rattles too finally! And I have some AMT tweeters to try out, if I like how they sound I'll order myself a set and fab some mounts, they're supposed to much smoother than the little mylar domes I have as stock with the Premium audio system.

Power locks are ok, but I've never had a car with a remote and no one hardly rides with me so they go unused. Get some silk tweeters, you know what they say about silk. tongue.gif

Also supposed to have someone come by Monday to look at the Firebird, so we'll see.

AMT are supposed to be smoother than even silk dome. They don't work like a normal speaker does with linear motion, but a ribbon folded up compresses the air out the front. It looks funky but it works very very well and creates sounds in a little different way than a cone speaker does.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Motion_Transformer

They'll handle extreme volumes without getting harsh and while remaining very clear.

I never turn in car audio very high, but the next time I get around to doing a system I'll look into using them.

Finally got around to the pass side door lock, it's back in the car and it works correctly! I'll finish up with the door and what not tomorrow and maybe start on the driver side. Now that I've done one it's easier than I thought so it should go more smoothly. I bought a spare pass side to rebuild so I still have my old one to rebuild and sell to recoup the cost of the one I rebuilt and the motors. So I need to buy another motor now.

Never got to the driver side lock. I did dampen the pass side door and seal it up, speakers sound MUCH better now. A big difference, I'm really really impressed.

It's a shame I don't know how to ride a bike, as I've actually have received some pretty good offers... One is a 2006 Harley Davidson Fatboy and the other is a 2007 Honda CBR600RR. If I could even remotely ride I'd probably go for it, but it'd just sit there as I'd kill myself if I were to attempt riding them.

Thought about it, but I wouldn't be able to test them or what to look for outside of generic mechanicals. Plus with Winter rolling around I'd imagine they're probably just as hard of a sale.

I just had someone offer me a 2001 Accord Coupe 5-speed, that's the first offer somewhat close to what I'm looking for. Supposed to have someone look at it Saturday and someone was supposed to today but they ended up having to take their mom to the hospital and plans to set up another day to see it.

I'd take the accord trade. Wouldn't be a bad daily.

What's funny is that as I started to ask more about it, like if it were the LX or EX etc... that's when he says he really doesn't know about Hondas but has a '79 Trans Am and '79 Formula in the shed. cwm13.gif So I'm not entirely sure how to feel on that one. To me that sounds like they're being hoarded and will just sit there for eternity rotting away. Anyway that's like the only generation of Accord I'd consider, except for the one after with a V6/6-speed, and I'm still not entirely wild about it. If I were to go FWD again I'd rather get a 6th gen Celica or a 2nd gen CR-X. I told him if the two current people that were looking to buy with cash changed their mind I'd consider trading. I dunno, if the ones looking to buy back out and the Accord is in good enough shape with working A/C I'll seriously think about it.

Well ain't this some ****.
Dayton Audio AMT2-4 Air Motion Transformer Tweeter 4 Ohm $70 each, right?

And the car audio 'pods'
Dayton Audio AMTPOD-4 Air Motion Transformer Automotive Tweeter Pair

I took a butter knife and popped one open, it's not even glued closed.
You'd expect the $50 a pair car audio pods to be a different driver inside and not the same thing as the $70 each bare tweets, that's a reasonable assumption isn't it? I mean given the giant price gap it would be a natural assumption and pretty logical, how can something for less than half the cost be the same thing and include MORE stuff? It just can't be!

Drum roll please....(or rim-shot if you bought the $70 each ones)
