Apparently this was posted around noon yesterday: http://huntsville.craigslist.org/cto/5474805211.html Seems a little sketchy though.

Ye I hate them too, but 6-speed would make them bearable. Reason it sounds sketchy to me is he states the body has "a lot of miles" but then doesn't give a number. LT4 heads require changing out the intake manifold and at that point might as well do the cam as well. The full respray to get a door to match seems off, but could just be super OCD. The parts that really concern me is that he says it runs strong but says could be retuned to run much better, that and in the first sentence he mentions a chip presumably for the parts added. So why does it need retuned? "Can't put more into it, already losing a lot. My loss your gain." translates to me "My problems are about to become your problems."

Maybe I'm just too cynical these days.

Found someone on the T/A forum wanting to trade his 6-speed '97 for a second gen, so I asked if he'd trade for cash. 350 some odd miles away in Kentucky but he's owned it since 1999 and it looks really clean, so it'd be worth the hassle. I just don't want to end up in the same situation I was in with the '79, and I just get that vibe with the one on CL.

Yea, probably got like 220k on the body or something and lord knows if it was a V8 car to begin with or not.

The VIN and RPO codes tell the engine, that and the RPO and body tag list the transmission I believe. Everyone else thinks it's fine, but I don't know. I just want one that hasn't been screwed with which is proving to make an already difficult search more so.

Hopefully the one in Kentucky will want to sell it.

He'll sell, but only if he finds a second gen he wants first...

Camaro just listed but I've seen it before and it's been for sale for awhile now: http://bham.craigslist.org/cto/5477229913.html

Found this "Camero" when I tried just looking for manual vehicles nearby: http://huntsville.craigslist.org/cto/5466568757.html

Outside of the owner not knowing how to spell the name of his car that spells it out for him on the back bumper and the dash with more cracks than a plumber's convention, it seems to be in good shape. Huge plus is the hardtop, but it would have to be bright red. I'm really thinking about saying screw it and see about getting it if it's all original and the A/C works...

Box, you make the whole car buying experience so hard, like pulling ass hairs out of a Spanish Toro.

Just buy something that is reliable. if the car breaks, then are you going to be able to work on it?

get a newish corolla, or newish sentra, slap a I love the earth sticker, and enjoy

It's a hard decision though, it's like picking between doors one through three and one of them has said Spanish toro with plucked ass hairs behind it. I know you guys are right though.

Ye I can still work on cars, just not the extent of what the Firebird ended up needing. Also I rather not be run off the road and/or shot, so let's not do that.

Going to see it tomorrow morning, first one to look at it so woo! So excited I can't sleep, but nothing new there. It's exactly how I want one though, so hopefully everything checks out.

That and it's a black hardtop with the 6-speed. tongue.gif The only way I'd want it even more is if it were a '97-98 in bright purple metallic. The LT1 is plenty fine for me to drive around like an old man, and to be honest I prefer the LT1 to a degree since it runs the older firing order so it has the old V8 exhaust note opposed to the LS series with the new firing order. That and I like the 93-97 Firebird styling a little more I think, so sleek looking.

We have a black auto trans WS6 where I work with 10k miles. I never knew they made them with an auto until we got this one in. Guy got it for just over $12,000 and now it's sat outside for a couple of months. kindasad.gif

TOO MANY of them came with an automatic. Supposedly the reason behind the 4th gen was GM couldn't get the T56's fast enough due to unexpected demand and the resulting backorder, but it's the same song and dance with the second and third gens though. I've found the production numbers before, but the percentage of manuals to automatics is grossly in favour of automatics. Which to me is weird since there are more manual Mustangs than automatic ones, and so it's said most that wanted a manual 4th gen that were on backorder ended up getting a Mustang instead since they were readily available.

Yup, really nice condition low mileage cars pop up on eBay all the time. What's funny is even in that shape I've seen ones with mismatched bumpers, the gold, silver, and pewter cars specifically. I've seen the LS1 cars with sub 50K miles and they'd have cracked door panels and bubbling sail panels due to whatever GM changed between the LT1 and LS1 cars on those areas. Not going to lie, they're not the hallmark of fine quality automobiles by any stretch of the imagination. To me the only reason to buy one is you get a V8 backed by a manual that powers the rear wheels, that and they look cool. If you want an automatic something like the SC400 is a much better buy in every regard.
