Washed my drivers seat and steering wheel with some Lexol leather cleaner, it's been a couple years I'm ashamed to say. What a difference in how nice the leather feels again. I'll condition it all tomorrow after it's dried for 24hrs.

Budget Street Cred, how to piss on your car and make people love it.

Love MCM. Marty's gramps build really makes me want a subaru.

The sound of that v6 was just beastly, gramps is a really cool project

Lexol is some good stuff, used it to treat my leather trench-coat the other day. Now it'll be soft to the touch while looking badass all at the same time. tongue.gif

Yea, the steering wheel feels so good, but my poor seats were just totally neglected and need to be re made. frown.gif One side of the wheel though has the leather rubbed through pretty bad, she probably had hand lotion or rings. I need to find somewhere to send it off to so I can get it recovered over the winter, not sure I want perforated leather on the grips though, but after doing more reading I don't think I want Alcantara either. Probably just stick with perf leather, but I'd like something that breathes better and doesn't try to dye my hands when they sweat.

If you're handy you can re-wrap it yourself. Kits are made for some wheels, whether or not there's one for the Celica I don't know. Personally I like perforated leather or wood.

I'm probably not that handy or patient, I'd rather send it out and have a warranty. Redline makes a reasonably priced wrap and there's a recommended installer about 2 hours north of me with good prices, so I'll likely just take that route. I weld and wrench, I don't stitch.

A friend is thinking about picking up a new used car with a $5K budget. She wants something fun, sporty, and yet roomy.

Current vehicles she is considering are:

6th gen celi
7th gen celi
Acura RSX
Acura TSX
Lexus IS300
2nd gen Lexus GS300

I know someone posted mechanical quirks earlier for the 7th gen Celicas. Does anyone know of any for the other listed vehicles? Pros, cons? etc. Thanks

Of that group I'd say the 6th gen or one of the Lexus sedans. If she's getting an automatic I'd say a Lexus exclusively. Though something to consider is they get 22 mpg or so on premium. Which at that rate I'd rather have the GS400 since it has 300 hp and the fuel economy is actually better that the GS300... Plus V8 burble. If she wants a manual the third gen Integra would be good. Oooh, also the SC400 which would be my choice for an automatic. The IS300 would be good with the manual, but I don't see you finding a nice one for under $5,000. Ehh, there's the Nissan 240SX if you can find a clean one. The NX-2000 as well, but it's hard to find. Think that more or less covers the reliable and sporty cars under an import brand.

Well, there's the MR2 but it isn't particularly roomy.

DO NOT buy a cheap Luxury car, ever. Not unless you're prepared to dump a bunch of money into it to get it up to good running condition and all maintenance current.

That only applies to Euros. tongue.gif That's any car though, don't buy a suspiciously cheap example of any car unless you know what the Hell to look for.

What about an '03 Beetle? Her uncle is willing to sell her his ex-wife's Beetle. I heard repairs on them get costly, but i dunno how true that is.
