Probably instructions too...
So I got a notification my dash cover has been completed and shipped out. Woooo, hopefully it looks as nice in person as it does in my mind. Plus the real hope here is that it'll cut out nearly all the windshield glare. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Actually yes, directions.
Fantastic, can't wait to see how it comes out. Trying to dye the rubber door moldings on this Capri and they're not taking the Forever Black very evenly but I can't quit now, did one side of the car with two coats. Going to go do a 3rd coat and try to tint/scuff that LED to dim it a bit. -------------------- |

If sharpie does not work then I will consider that. I could thin some with acetone or paint thinner...

Hmm acetone or thinner might eat into the plastic of the LED, could use denatured alcohol or isopropyl alcohol if you have that on hand and wouldn't have to worry about melting it.

Eh.
3rd coat on the side molding seems to have smoothed it out, it's not taking the dye like my Celica side skirts did, they drank it up and it was easy to get a good smooth coverage, this is much harder! Hopefully the bumper trims go well! I need to pick up another roll of yellow painters tape to mask off the plastic when I buff everything and wax it so I don't put white stains on the newly blacked plastic. "Fixed" the front parking lights, both side sockets are rotten and part of the lamp itself, so actual fixing is very very hard and will take more time than I want to invest in that part, so I got two front firing SMD T10 warm white LED bulbs that I took from her footwell lights and got it make contact in the sockets, a little E6000 craft glue to make sure they stay put, should be OK. I put some bright but inapproprately blue tinted white 6 5730 T10's in the footwell lights, they flood the area more and spill up into the seats almost, they're just too blue tinted for exterior use in my opinion. Front park lights look like they have very bright incandescent lamps in them, fingers crossed they stay lit and I don't need to fiddle with the sockets more, but I might need to later. One side marker bulb is out, just going to put a 194 bulb in there, nothing fancy. This post has been edited by Bitter: Oct 26, 2016 - 10:42 PM -------------------- |

Hmm, maybe the trim on the Capri is all clogged with years of set in wax.

Hmm, maybe the trim on the Capri is all clogged with years of set in wax. nah, it was gray from the factory and the side molding is some kind of rubber, kind of feels like vinyl or a TPE material. Looks nice and rich black now with the 3rd coat so I'm not too worried about it. Let it dry all day and I'll finish with the glaze on the hood and then get some wax down the hood, trunk, and one side of the car, then try to mask the front bumper so I can do that trim. I want my garage back! I still need to dig into the door lock too but that might wait till spring or this weekend cause I need to pull the Celica out to get the Capri in the middle to work on the doors. If I'm pulling a door panel I'm going to put in a couple strips of sound damper cause why not. -------------------- |

It was the 90's, grey was the new black or something like that. I imagine it looks a lot better now though.
Looking around the TRS site, thinking maybe about maybe the Morimoto instead of giving my left kidney for an all O.E. setup. That's ok I need to feel like taking out a headlamp so I can measure the distance from the bulb opening to the back of the lense, if all I have to do is cut some polycarbonate to size that's much easier than trying to make some kind of convex lense. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

I really think depth is going to be an issue but you'll soon find out. Remember that you also need to be able to fit the D2S connector back there and those aren't small and they're wide x tall so the deepest point needs to be taken into account as not a point but an area the size of a D2S connector.

I saw under the Morimoto D2S kit reviews on TRS where someone with a third gen Camaro was able to modify eBay 6"x4" housings and put projectors into them, of course rather or not there was more to it than just opening them and putting the projector in it doesn't say. Which that one guy was able to do the FX-R projectors for the '93-97 Firebirds so would think the mini D2S would be a breeze in comparison. There's at least an inch maybe two inches between the back of the headlamp housing to the back of the headlight door, want to say there's a decent amount of room top to bottom of the H4 connector as well. Will have to remember to look later, I guess before I make an order on anything I could e-mail to see if they've already helped someone with a '93-97 Firebird and what they ended up using.

Cover arrived and of course the easy option is still going to be a giant pain in the ass, you have to get the cover tucked between the dash and windshield and thanks to the ****ing plastidip the cover just grabs the dash pad and refuses to cooperate. That's ok prior to ever to doing anything to it the surface was rough feeling anyway from being dried out, I hate this ****ing dashboard. On the plus side it looks fairly nice except for where they cut it for the airbag, I'll just make sure to adhere it more in that area to keep the pieces close together. Also from what sun was out it does appear to not glare any at all, and it matches the microsuede I used for the shift boot and may do other pieces in. I guess I'll be messing with it all day instead of the paint, that's ok I was looking at clay alternatives again and I can't decide between the towel or a 6" DA buffer pad. Kinda leaning towards the towel since it can get it anywhere your fingers can.

Yo, just stick some packing tape on the edge of the dash and you've got an instantly smooth surface, use a plastic squeege like for body filler to tuck it down in there.

Already tried doing the packing tape across the entire back and using a plastic windshield cleaning tool without its microfiber pad along with a leather folding tool. Sorta kinda got it but couldn't get that last half an inch or so in the center. What needs to happen is pick up and slide the dash cap forward a twitch to make room and then push it back in but that's probably impossible without it breaking into more pieces.

They'll probably tell me the same or to remove the cap some, I'm thinking on it but it'll probably come down to moving the cap just enough or to work the edge enough with the leather folder. Once in place I think it'll look fairly good though and much better than it is now, will have to get a picture once it's hopefully done. From what I can tell with where I had gotten it to it looks more sporty than grandpa cary, which was one of the concerns. The dash is so ginormous it works out and doesn't look too terribly out of place. Seriously though I swear these cars have the biggest dashes I've ever seen outside of supercars and race cars.
