I need to get some electronic flashers the next time I make an order off RockAuto since they're cheapest there. I really wish I could find the euro tails for my car but they're the proverbial needle in the haystack, I just like having an amber rear signal since they're so much easier to see than red.

Not exactly legal but you could get an amber/white switch back in the reverse housing and wire the amber section as turn signal?
Even just clear housings are like hens teeth. -------------------- |

I had thought about something like that, that or maybe a strong enough yellow 194 should come through as orange behind the red "jewel" on the housing. How it's setup from the factory is outside to inside 194 brake, 3057 tail/brake/signal, 3057 tail/brake/signal, and 1156 reverse. So could convert the outside 194 to signal and make the 3057 tail/brake only or put in a switchback 1157 in reverse and send signal to them. Though for whatever reason there are no aftermarket options at all for the Firebird yet the Camaro has options, they also had an amber rear signal for '97-02 from the factory.
The clear housings are where the "jewels" have been removed from the housing: I could do that then use coloured LEDs, would run tint like I am now to make them look better. Then I found a Bulgarian listing on eBay for the euro tail with good pictures: -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Can you swap the reflector from yours to those? If so then go for it, they look nice.
Ah, de-jeweled. Makes sense, sadly that lens inside is crucial to how the light spreads to make them effective from many angles. -------------------- |

The bottom reflector strip? It pops out by depressing a few tabs on the back, would definitely swap those over if I ever found Euro tails since not sure what's the deal with the plain red plastic. I wish the eBay listing was still active but it's an older one with nice pictures that I just saved to my computer so whenever it expires I still have the pictures.
Yup I figured as much which is why I never attempted breaking mine open. I saw a part number on the last picture, could try looking it up and seeing if for some weird reason there's a GM dealer somewhere with Euro lights. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Only thing I can think of is either a strong enough yellow 194 so through the red it shows orange(probably won't work), or breaking open the tails and either trying to tint the outside jewel orange or somehow making an orange replacement jewel but both are risky and difficult. Which I had one more idea, since the reflectors do pop out perhaps I could put down an orange LED strip and make a clear cover from polycarbonate or acrylic, though making a perfectly shaped cover could prove difficult. If I did that I'd just tie them in with the turn signals.

It's been years since i've been back on 6gc ever since my Celica was hit several years back and bought an fr-s. Less than 3 years before I can import a GT4. The place has changed a lot..

I think I have an idea, in place of the reflectors I could place an orange/amber LED strip then make a lense from that ceiling light panel stuff that distributes the light. Then could make them the primary turn signals and make the 3057 bulbs solely tail/brake lights. A lot of time and work to make them look really nice though, but could be worth it.

It is when you look from that angle, the shadowing really highlights it too. Driving it though it doesn't feel like it is, that big peak on the gauge hood feels natural and the swoops for the HVAC vents just blend and flow.

I've only really paid attention to the dash from inside which is why it threw me off. Would look nice wrapped in microsuede.

I agree completely, it would look very nice wrapped. But it would have to be taken all apart to be wrapped properly and then the cutout for the air bag would look gnarly weird cause I don't think I could have cloth over it.

Trust me I understand. For what it's worth I was watching Bitchin' Rides on Velocity once and the very same issue arose since they were working on a 90's Impala where the customer wanted the entire wheel leather wrapped, but they were unsure about how safe it was and they tested a wheel airbag wrapped in leather and sure enough the air bag didn't care and punched right through it. I can't remember 100% but I think they might've scored a release seam as well though. At any rate it defied any reasoning I had on the subject prior.

Yea also cost and stuff cause I'm not going to DIY that ****.
So that boosted LED spot light pod, I mounted it where the pass side fog light was and took a spin with it plugged into the high beams. It works. It adds a heck of a high beam assist. When the 2nd one comes in I'll boost it just the same and seal them both up with E6000 glue and wire them up together to grab power from the high beam circuit and have some insane-o high beams. Everything about the lighting on the Mazda is totally illegal now LOL. -------------------- |
