lol probably bent valves, that's a small port on those things right? I think they're interference engines but maybe not, might just be out of time and not bent.

I would put in a louder horn, only problem is a longer one like that would have to go into the nose cone so it'll probably be louder to me than whoever I'm blasting it at.
I've always kinda liked the AE92, might be able to get the information needed from the AutoZone online manual thingy they have for people that make an user account. I find it kind of hard to believe they'd just give up after the timing belt didn't work out right though, realign timing marks and check timing so unless something else got messed up or forgotten in the process like a crank sensor. Then again for $500 if it has a clean title and is halfway decent you really can't go wrong. NVM Bitter posted first, but was going to say I can't remember if the 4A-GE was the oddball in the Toyota lineup and is actually an interference engine. Just checked and the 4A-GE that was used here stock isn't interference at least. This post has been edited by Box: Dec 7, 2016 - 12:46 AM -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

As long as the trumpet is partly exposed to outside it'll honk pretty loudly outside the car, mine is just laying across the front behind the plastic crash bar just below the upper grill.

Ive seen plenty of people thow away a car just because it needed a timing belt. / cross fingers -------------------- Bust a Deal; Face the Wheel.

The only place to expose the horn to the outside is through the slits in the undertray panels towards the ground, GM was serious about getting the most from the bottom feeder radiator setup and the front of the car is completely sealed up with panels. It's why I haven't done fog lights since it'd mean removing them all just so I can fumble around blindly trying to determine what fog lights would work and how I might possibly mount them.
Well hopefully that's all it needs then is realigning the gears and dialing in timing. Since it's OBD-I and has a distributor it's very likely that's the case. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Well I had a brain storm last night/this morning about horn placement but I forgot to bring the god damn tube cutter home! I've got a spare horn and I realized that the tone is tuned by length and bell mouth size, so if I put a flexible section between the diaphragm and trumpet I got to thinking I could put the horn just about any which way as long as I don't alter the length too much, I could get things to bend and fit in better places and end up with a more exposed trumpet end for bigger sound and easier mounting!
But like I said, I forgot my tubing cutter. I have a hack saw with a fine tooth blade so I might do that but I really wanted a nice square cut on it. -------------------- |

Should raise the pitch of the spare horn up a fifth, get a nice wide tone out of them.
Oh and my car smelled just as strongly of oranges, it's like being in an orange grove it's soooo good. I don't see it having problems lasting a few days, if it can last a week plus that'd be pretty impressive. I think I might do the Citrus Blend next since it's orange, lemon, and lime together. That or cinnamon apple and the cinnamon clove sounded nice too. This post has been edited by Box: Dec 8, 2016 - 1:18 AM -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Since you were talking about horns I thought I'd show you this guys solution.
This is a '49(?) Ford body on a custom frame with the Corvette motor. My friend didn't build it but he's been correcting the wiring problems of the guys who did. He said the guys got nearly $200k in it. But, notice the horn that will get peoples attention. -------------------- Bust a Deal; Face the Wheel.

Judging from the horn set it must be four octaves, if that doesn't get attention I don't know what will. Also it wouldn't surprise me if it had $200K into it parts and labour included, steel 40's Ford and Mercury bodies aren't cheap and that one looks to have a lot of fabrication done to it.
So after spending more time than I should I finally found where '93-96 10 speaker systems is the "Delco 2001" system and the only amplified speakers are the sail panel subs that're run off a small 2-channel amp in the passenger quarter panel, then the mid drivers and tweeters in the doors and cargo area were frequency filtered via capacitors soldered to the drivers and tweeters and I know at least in the hatch all that's long gone and it wouldn't surprise me if that's the case in the doors. So now I know I need to use either coaxial speakers or a component set with crossovers for the doors and hatch, then the Bazooka replacements should still work for the sail panel subs. Thought to check for the tweeters in the door and they're there, but it all needs replaced. I think I found a good combination of speakers, wanted to keep component sets but didn't want to futz with crossover boxes:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_77126_...n-SRG1623S.html http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9308_P...dio-db461P.html Then the sail panel sub replacements: http://shop.doubledmods.com/WF6415DV-4-ohm...2-bazooka65.htm Right under $200, which I guess isn't too terrible and it should meet/exceed all my needs. Unlike someone else I know that's decided 1200W RMS and shaking their car apart isn't enough. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

My horn theory holds true, but the tone deepens quickly with only a couple inches added, the 90 elbow works too. Maybe you'll have some more mounting options with the added flexibility!

Just go all French horn on it.
So I found a free solution to my useless buttons dilemma, originally was going to pop the buttons off and wrap the top of the casings but turns out it's just buttons and a rubber/foam pad then is open underneath. At first was just futzing around with the vinyl but I think it works out, at least now there aren't readily visible useless buttons and instead there're some oddly shaped inserts. Maybe one day if I wrap the wheel I'll fill the holes with some foam of similar density before covering it, but meh it'll do for now: This post has been edited by Box: Dec 10, 2016 - 12:03 AM -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Make them functional? I'm sure there's a SWC module for that car to work with the right aftermarket headunit OR you could setup an arduino to use the resistances as inputs to do stuff (what stuff I've not a clue).

There's only one FM station I listen to and the rest is through auxiliary, so even if they were working they'd go unused. As far as repurposing them I've not the slightest clue either.

Hmm, let's give benefit of the doubt and their brakes went out.
Just got back from a sorta short spirited spin, say that five times fast. It's nice today though and it's been awhile since I've driven for the sake of driving, that and it's good to rev it out some now and then. By rev it out I mean finish climbing to 5K in second and I'm speeding. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed
