Doesn't look good. My car was garaged too, yet has a lovely spot of rocker rust now. I never cleaned out the top drain passages, so I guess that's what I get.

The NA Miata is notorious for rusting rockers, mine had been garaged too but on the test drive I pulled into a parking lot and looked the rockers and pinch welds over and the first thing I did after getting it was I cleared out the drains and removed those stupid flaps. I doubt you're solely responsible, odds are I bet it stayed in the garage except for drives and when it was washed and probably put right back in the garage and never cleared the drains which would have caused it.
Washed the car this morning since it was overdue, that and a stupid cat or something had gotten onto it... Then went over to father's for Christmas lunch. Drive home was nice, really liking the new Hella lamps. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Almost finished up speaker install, just need to mount crossover boxes and connect the woofers and tweeters then get the door panels back on then good to go. Got the rear plate speakers first as they'd be easiest and tested them out just by themselves and they sound fantastic, better than I expected them to on their own. Honestly just those two have outperformed a lot of cars with two in the doors and two in the quarters, I guess the backglass just does that good of a job of reflecting the sound towards the passengers. Which the Bazooka subs were on backorder so it'll be who knows when those get here and are installed, but it'll be easy to put those in when they do since just have to pop out the quarter panel grilles to get to them. Can't wait though with just the rears being so good, and then once the fronts are done the subs will be the last piece.
There finished up everything and played through some songs. Also turns out the front mid-drivers had been replaced with some Kenwood ones soldered in their place, factory tweeters had been left alone. So much better is an understatement, which I read where the Polks were the best for those that wanted accurate reproduction of the music and that they do. Very well rounded and smooth output, glad I chose them. Izumi Kitta's voice cracking has never sounded better. Bought a quart/litre of Castrol DOT 4 to finally flush out the brake and clutch systems with. The fluid that's there is fairly clean(for once, I still at times want to write a thank you letter) so it just kind of fell back on the to do list, especially since I hadn't started any kind of autocross or HPDE yet. From what I could find seemed the Castrol DOT 4 was the best stuff for primarily street use with occasional time at the track, I still need to get off my ass and go to the pull-a-part when there are a few '98-02 F-bodies to harvest the front calipers and spindles from.
Bazooka subs finally arrived this afternoon so took the factory subs out and desoldered then removed the connectors from them to make harnesses so in that regard they're ready to plug and play tomorrow provided the weather cooperates. Weather started off meh and got worse as was installing of course but got them installed without too much hassle, biggest issue was for some reason the passenger side wiring was opposite so I had to take it back out and swap connectors around but a couple gallons of fuel and a couple hours of music later the system sounds really good now. Very balanced and full, the only thing is the Bazookas would benefit greatly from an aftermarket amp as even with EQ and digital enhancement from the stereo they're not driven very hard at all. Which is mostly fine for my music and I think replacing the factory amp would get it where I want it.

Been meaning to ask if you can get some shots of the Hella lamps against that hill like you did the Autopal.

I thought about it the night after changing them and a few times since but lately between rain and getting ready to move it's slipped my mind. That's ok first I need to go back and look at the pictures so I can try and emulate as much of a side by side comparison as possible.
Maybe tomorrow it won't freaking rain and I can get some pictures. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

So instead of being bothered with buying a syringe or a syphon pump or having to go anywhere I just made a vacuum chamber with a wasabi peas snack can and some aquarium tubing. Tested it with a 16 oz bottle of water set about a foot or two below and emptied it in about 15 seconds, so half a gallon a minute and the can holds about a quart. Not bad for free and the 30 seconds of my life to drill holes in the can lid for the tubing, plus I've repurposed what would otherwise have been garbage. Will come in handy for bleeding lines and emptying reservoirs, this may be the most valuable tool I've ever made.
One of those moments you ask why didn't I think of this ages ago. Sleep deprivation must be the answer. ![]() This post has been edited by Box: Jan 2, 2017 - 6:00 PM -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Brake fluid arrived so flushed out the clutch and brake system, they weren't kidding when they said the Castrol DOT 4 was super clear either as at a quick glance the brake reservoir looks empty. I could be imagining things but the clutch and brakes seem happier, even though the old fluid wasn't that worn.

I've heard blue pen ink can be used to dye brake fluid. We've got coolant dyes at work, I might put a 1/2 drop of blue in my new stuff to help see it when I flush it out.

Used to ATE made a blue DOT 4, but with the DOT making a requirement brake fluid be clear or amber I don't think you can get it anymore. At any rate it was so much clearer it wasn't too hard to distinguish.
I found this one place that seems to sell it still: http://www.mzmperformance.com/ate-super-bl...luid-dot-4.html They're BBB accredited and located in Texas so I guess it'd be worth a shot. This post has been edited by Box: Jan 4, 2017 - 1:53 AM -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Humble brag - drove a Cobra replica today with a crate 427. Only a few hundred feet, but boy was that nice.

I want a 427/4-speed Cobra Daytona replica really badly, then again there are a lot of cars I want really badly that span the ages and across the world. I need to become a multi-millionaire so I can become the next Jay Leno and have a different car for every day of the year.
