We don't have public transportation around here so I'll just give up and get a Honda Insight, then I can get 60 mpg and go in without any expectations of performance.
I had thought about the NC1, but you can still get a nice NB2 for considerably less. If I got a well maintained 100K mile example I wouldn't mind revving it out, wouldn't feel like I was risking breaking something all the time. I was thinking about getting one with the 6-speed so taking it to redline would happen at lower speeds, plus the 6-speed is supposed to be better for adding power and not breaking. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

"You probably won't even fully use the power of the Miata as it is." ~My brother to me when talking about swapping or going forced induction with a Miata. I'll use it more often than what I do with the Firebird at least.

Maybe, maybe not. After *counts in head* 8 cars now I have a fairly good idea of what I can live with and what I can't in a car. I can't live with a boat with truck suspension, I know that much. Even if it does make magical noises, magical noises aren't reason enough to keep a car.

you need to get your favorite shell and build it from different car parts.

you need to get your favorite shell and build it from different car parts. Honestly that's exactly what needs to happen in order to have a chance of being entirely happy with a car. Sadly that means a really expensive FD RX-7 shell and then an equally as expensive LS-3/TR-6060 dropout from a 5th gen Camaro SS. Though a balling on a budget version would be a RX-8 with perhaps a LM-4/T-5. I think I'll be happy with a NB2 Miata though, after doing some suspension and rims/tires. When I say I never use the power of the Firebird I mean it, unless you want to count going up an incline in 5th or 6th with the A/C on. Last thing I want to do is get a speeding ticket or exhibition of speed ticket, you can't use the power of the Firebird unless you want to risk either. First gear tops at 49 mph and second tops at 73 mph, so by the time you finish first you're speeding in most instances and by the time you finish second you're speeding in all instances. 0-60 happens in mid 5 second range and it makes a lot of noise and lifts the nose doing it, so any officer that feels like it could pull me over for exhibition of speed even if I hadn't broken the speed limit. I no **** drive it like an old lady the entire time, usually granny shifting around 2,000-2,500 using 1/4-1/2 throttle so to not draw attention. Then where I do want to drive it aggressively is through twisty back roads and mountain roads and it's meh, it does ok for what it is. If the Celica were a 9/10, the Miata a 8/10, the Firebird is a 5/10 or maybe a 6/10 if the road is perfect. Thing is though even if I did every suspension mod under the sun and brought it up to an 8/10 on a perfect road it'll still have the solid axle I'll NEVER be happy with because on the **** roads around here it'll tank it. Besides it's bigger and heavier than I care for as well, and there's no fixing that either. I bought the Firebird since I wanted a V8(more for the sounds than the power) and a manual, and I had wanted to try a fourth gen for awhile and I thought the solid axle was something I could perhaps come to terms with. I even asked myself before buying it if it were something I wanted to get involved in knowing I probably would end up not liking it because of the solid axle. That's not even taking things into consideration like the fact I can't see out of the damn thing which makes me uncomfortable as **** and the PlaySkool interior that pisses me off. It's just not for me. Really the NB2 Miata is the last option out there so the buying/selling stops with it until I have money for a C5 Vette or the like. Being I was content with the power of a worn out NA6 with 116 hp I fail to see how I wouldn't be content with a fresher NB2 with 142 hp that has VVT to reinforce the low end, never mind that the 1.8 has better torque even on non VVT versions. Plus another thing is the NB2 will be a newer car by 5-6 years so there's that. Worst case scenario I don't like it but I let my brother borrow it and it keeps him away from getting another ****ing motorcycle. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

A newer V8 is the answer, less crude suspension. You can use all of Miata power all the time, even in the wet, yet a 1.8 still has to be revved halfway to the moon to make things happen. It gives me a similar fizz to a handful of V8 but they are different worlds and really can't be cross-shopped.
I'm thinking of selling my Celica, you want to buy that and sell it six months later? I know you'd take care of it in the meantime and wouldn't sell it to some punk kid, so I don't mind. Yeah, something that's either swapped or maybe a Corvette or any other smaller cars out there that already have a V8 from the factory. I wouldn't mind revving a well maintained low mile NB2, and technically the only time I'd "have to" would be merging with traffic so as to not be an ass and slow people down. Otherwise I can be as leisurely as I want so long as it doesn't bog. That's the other thing with the Firebird in being a daily driver is in the rain there are times it wants to kill you, even with good summer tires that expel water nicely and driving extra careful. There was one time I was going through town and I was pulling out from an intersection and went into second and next thing I know I'm at a 45º angle, I was able to correct it with counter steering and throttle but had there been someone next to me I'd probably had tapped them. This was with granny driving, so what the Hell happened is beyond me. There's been other times where the Firebird has gotten me into interesting situations but thankfully I knew how to deal with it, and each time it was just driving normally and not aggressively. Before going to the 17x9.5 and BFG Sport COMP-2 it really wanted to kill you at any moment's notice.
First I have to sell the Firebird before doing anything. I just hate selling cars, more so than buying them. I've honestly considered asking my brother if he wants to deal with selling it and I'll pay him $100 to do so. Are you homosexual or a masochist or both?
An aunt in Montana had one, it literally spent more time at the VAG dealer than it did in her possession, as soon as it hit the 3yr/36k mile warranty expiration it was traded for something else. When it ran she loved it. -------------------- |

No and yes, but that's enough about my personal life.
On paper they look like a good idea, 225 hp and AWD. Can't be any worse than their competition, an Eclipse GS-X or to some extent the 3000GT VR-4. Though I guess you could put the Impreza Coupe 2.5 RS in there as well, but it'd need swapped to get performance on par. I guess a Celica All-Trac would be the ideal AWD coupe though, but those are so rare and even harder to find one that's running it seems. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

I love the TT but I wouldn't own one. I'd rather cut off my own testicles because it would be cheaper and less painful in the long run.

Hmmm, that seems to be a reoccurring theme with German cars. Back to a Miata then.

Hmm, so a 993 model 911. I had thought about an E36 or E46 coupe, but just typical German car BS that goes along with them. Same with the Boxster, they're cheap enough now but it's for a reason.

GT4's and All-tracs arent hard to find if you know where to look. I've seen a fair number of them considering how few car things I go to.

I meant the 5th gen specifically, but even 4th gen I haven't seen many of. Then when I do find one it needs something fairly major usually. That's ok, I really need something no older than the Firebird. Which is what was nice about the Miata, Celica, and MR-S since they're in that 2000-2005 range. I wouldn't know what to do with myself having such a new car.
