Fresh oil in the subie and my mothers 4Runner today. When doing the 4Runners oil my hatred of quick change oil shops was ow found as they put everything on way too tight but thankfully swearing and brute strength got the oil filter off which was the worst of it.

I guess it's better to be too tight than too lose and you dump all your oil going down the road and lock up the motor, which that happens too.

It was tight enough for me to go buy a wench but sadly that didn't work. I just had to use my hands to get it off. Think next week I'll get some new spark plugs for the Subaru and it should be up to date on basic maintenance stuff.

The wrench-type filter tool has helped me once before, I haven't tried the other type yet. Danged monkeys.

Big Channellocks work great on filters if you can get one in there. OR, you can puncture the filter with a screwdriver and spin it that way.

That style works best, have yet to have one not take a filter off, even with a reducer and half inch ratchet.

Internet has been dead, but got the top latch caps onto the Miata so now the top seals nice and tightly. Brother ended up getting a Kensun digital A/C HID kit for free off a car from work that was traded in since they wanted it back to stock before putting it onto the lot. So he bought some Morimoto 9006 HID bulbs to use on the Miata for now. I am getting him to properly retrofit the Genesis and Audi with D2S setups, he'll only have the cost of bulbs into the Miata in that regard and I doubt it'll see much night use anyway.

Included mic for BT calling with the Kenwood was barely adequate, ordered a better mic from Amazon, came in, hooked it up, winner! I got it wedged into the dash between where 3 parts come together, it points right at my face, and is out of sight. I think I got the bluetooth music skipping solved by putting the phone directly below the radio. The ipod would work from the cup holder or armrest cubby just fine, still had a couple skips but it's MUCH better than before.

I've never dealt with a bluetooth audio setup I felt was adequate rather factory or aftermarket, they always skip. I'll just use USB or auxiliary.

Miata is almost caught up with stuff, did clutch and brake fluid the other day and just did the power steering fluid. He's going to do the engine oil, transmission oil, and differential oil at work. That and the fuel filter. I told him about the Motorcraft stuff for the transmission since it's supposed to work the best in the Miata. Service records show suspension and brakes were done in the last 10K miles, so that's really about it outside of the shifter rebuild but that's not really as detrimental.

In other news I found the driving shoes I had gotten awhile back to see if that'll help any with the Firebird. Decided to cheat and break them in by hand by working the leather by hand and applying mink oil, much softer now and won't hurt my feet breaking them in that way. Hopefully it might help some by distributing the pressure more evenly on my foot and it should force me to place my foot higher on the pedal which should reduce stress on the knee.

The iPod never skipped over bluetooth so I'm surprised the new phone does. I only run it over BT because that's the only way to get song info on the screen with the pandora built into the radio I can thumb up or down from the head unit, skip tracks, auto pause and resume with the car turning on/off, handy stuff. I need to go through and tag all my music much better so the music players work with it more nicely, problem is some of it aren't single artist albums like soundtracks. I have things arranged in folders within folders, like a folder for the artist and then their albums in sub folders. I'll get it figured out...

Fuel gauge is officially stuck on full for some reason, possibly dried up varnish crud from when it sat dry, a wiring issue, or a mechanical interference between tank and sending unit, leaning toward electrical or gunk cause of the way the needle did move super slow when fuel was added and then also cause it has moved to less than full and back to full. Going to add some injector cleaner and acetone to try to clean it without dropping the tank, fingers crossed.

Out of acetone at home, ugh, don't have spare bottle of injector cleaner here either, double ugh. I'll get supplies when I'm on the road I guess!

Might try shaking the back of the car after putting in the cleaner to help agitate it for one, but also try and knock the float loose.

The Morimoto bulbs arrived and are now in place, I can see where people say they're the best aftermarket option. Seem a bit nicer made than the Kensun or OPT7 stuff, that and it uses a special connection on the bulb and came with the needed harnesses from The Retrofit Source. Seems a good bit better than the halogen replacements, cutoff is decent being a halogen projector and not a HID one. At any rate he's happy with how it is for now and it only cost him the bulbs.

Wrapped the door handles, fuel lid, filler panel, and deck lid in some carbon fibre vinyl he had bought for the Genesis but decided on not using. Will get the hood tomorrow. Not sure what they hell they did but they really messed up the paint on the deck lid, filler panel, and hood. Taking the badge off the deck lid you could tell how bad they faded it. Only thing I can figure is they tried cleaning it with something they weren't supposed to, like laundry detergent or what have you. Shame since otherwise the paint was still in good shape. Slowly but surely finishing the Miata up to where he wants it.

In Ohio and my gas needle is now moving seemingly normally. I only got in maybe an ounce of acetone before I left, when I forget in Indiana it wasn't working but after I filled up it's now working. Either the acetone cleaned the contacts up or it's just pretending to work. Lol. Who knows. Going to just stick with filling up every 200 miles or when I stop. I'll hit up an autoparts store when I get there for some gumout and get a can of acetone and get the correct ratio mixed in if it's not moving normally. Food on the Ohio turnpike sucks, Burger King is on breakfast menu, all grease and cheese. Ugh. Bad enough redbull and traveling give me tushy tantrums.

You not have a Taco Bell nearby? I like their breakfast the most as far as fast food chains go. The only thing I ever liked from Burger King or McDonald's was the plain bacon croissant sandwich and hot cakes. Oh and hash browns. Chik-Fil-A chicken biscuit is good too. That's about it I can think of off the top of my head. That or run into a Wal-Mart or Publix and get Pop Tarts. tongue.gif
