Anybody here a PC wiz? I'm getting an "irql_not_equal_or_less" BSOD on Windows 8.1 after a fresh install attempt. Found this so far but my mobo BIOS does not seem to have a setting for Cache Memory disable.

Long time ago. I built this thing in August 2015 and it crashed Feb 2016. Posting from the PC again now. It ended up being the wifi card. I can't quite remember why but something led me to wipe and reinstall the OS last year in February. After attempting to restart after reinstallation, Windows would crash and give the irql BSOD, then would go on an endless cycle of booting and crashing with another OS error message. I couldn't find much last year so I gave up for a little, and just started playing around with it again last week. Webs seemed to indicate drivers so first I removed the GFX card, no dice. Then I looked through my documentation and noticed a warning included with the wifi card - "Install Driver before installing device onto mobo." Oops. Turns out when I first built the computer, I installed and started the OS with the bare essentials, but didn't bother doing so the second time around six months later. I'm going to spend the weekend gaming blissfully.

Ahh well there ya go, I had a similar situation once with the driver downloading wrong on the wi-fi card. Wouldn't boot with the wi-fi turned on but would if it were turned off, then as soon as you switched the card on you'd get an error screen and crash.
So on the bright side even with my knee having ligaments and tendons swollen and visibly bulging out on top of my leg being numb I could use the clutch on the Miata, go figure. I just don't want to sell the Firebird though... I mean, I really like the NB2, but my god is it anemic in comparison. From a stop it's not bad at all, but any time else it's just meh. Like it just takes forever to get momentum from a roll it seems, even downshifting into the lowest gear possible. In comparison you could leave the Firebird in overdrive and gain speed just as quick, if not quicker never mind if you downshifted the Firebird as well. Don't even get me started on passing power and climbing inclines. The Miata is more fun to sling around, more so due to there being less to sling around in all senses of the word I suppose and you can see the fender arches to help place the car. The Firebird is more fun to get onto it, for obvious reasons, and sounds 100 times better. The Firebird is a little more comfortable in terms of ride, and there's way more shoulder room though at least in the NB2 I have about a quarter to half an inch between my shoulder and the door panel unlike in the NA6 it was buried into the panel. Having the top down in the Miata adds another element to the driving experience, but it does mean taking the time to put my hair up and not really having anywhere to go per se. They each have their strengths and weaknesses and I honestly can't decide between them, the one thing that's big in the Miata's favour is the simple fact the clutch is so light I can always drive it. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Windows 8.1 is the problem, 7 or 10 or Ubuntu Linux or nothing.
Mail it to me, I'll ship it back with at least 2 working operating systems. -------------------- |

Yeh, I really dislike this OS. Even Vista was better. I forget why I bought it exactly, I do remember I wanted a plug-and-play option rather than messing with Linux like you said. The hardware was foreign enough for me, I wanted to simplify the software bits. Thanks for the offer, but I am not shipping this brick. My manager said something similar as far as being better off with ditching this.

I wouldn't bother buying 7, it'll be EOL in 2020 so if you wanna stick with windows go with 10. Play around with it for a bit and you'll like it.

Who said anything about buying 7? Digital River mirror my friend.
Anyway, Xubuntu/Ubuntu will run on basically anything hardware wise, heck you can yank the drive from one PC and shove it in another with totally different hardware and it'll boot right up and run without hardly a hiccup. It's like the cockroach of operating systems, you can't kill it. Xubuntu runs fine and smooth on even 10 year old hardware, great way to get more life out of old stuff. I load it up on older laptops I get for free and give them away to friends who need a computer. It'll do whatever they want to do on the internet without getting a bunch of ****ty viruses constantly. -------------------- |

You don't get viruses if you don't go places you're not supposed to.

Oh sure you can. Plenty of websites that are mundane and safe seeming can be infected with malware that'll trojan viruses and junk onto your computer. Even legit websites can get hijacked to install bad things.

So apparently a Lotus Elan makes a Miata look big:

Or you don't know you have any
The Elan is a tiny car, you should buy a Kia Elan. Oh man I know the car for you.... http://www.motortrend.com/news/1991-isuzu-impulse-rs-review/ -------------------- |

It would have to be exceedingly rare wouldn't it.
At that rate find a 5th gen All-Trac. Hey there's an idea, find someone with an All-Trac that wants to trade for the Firebird. This post has been edited by Box: Dec 4, 2017 - 8:14 PM -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

914 is now officially gone from my life. Feels good, I feel free and my Subie is in the garage which feels nice. I ordered some nice Celi parts too.

Wooo, Celica parts!
So my mom brought up going on disability the other night, which I've been putting off because I just really don't want to at my age hoping things would get better. Though I guess it's not like I can't get off it if things do turn around, and in the mean time it'll better allow me to turn things around(being legally disabled an employer would HAVE to accommodate for me by law and couldn't discriminate based on my abilities) and also help out again financially which is something that's bothered me as well. Which when my mom was approved for disability she got a few years of back pay to when it was diagnosed by the doctor, so if the same happened I'd get a few years upfront as well. In which case I'd buy a SC400 in order to have something for the days I'm just not able to deal with a clutch, or I'm just hurting really badly but just HAVE to be somewhere I can get there as comfortably as possible. Since those are easy to find nice examples for $5K or less would still have money to try and sort the clutch of the Firebird to make it light enough to where it's not a problem. Worst case there I don't know, I guess sell it and see if the clutch on a C5 Corvette is light enough. If not then get a Miata or the like and call it real. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Brother bought a CSF brand radiator for the Miata and it arrived. He said they were good and that they used them at the dealership for customers that didn't have the money, or didn't want to spend the money, on an actual VW/Audi replacement. I dunno, I'm not exactly impressed since some of the rows of fins aren't as uniform as they could be. Then again for under $60 shipped I guess you can't expect too much aside from it to hold pressure and not leak I guess. Personally I'd have sprung the extra $40 for a Koyo, but that's just me.
