Ugh... I swear I'm going to punch him if the garage door doesn't get fixed soon so my f***ing car can be finally fixed and sold. I suppose if anything good has come out of this it's given me plenty of time to figure out what to replace it with. I imagine the NC is plenty practical enough for my needs, a week's worth of groceries for one or two should fit and Alabama means RWD year round is viable. The NC seems to be pretty safe and reliable, expect for apparently the 2% of '06-08(more so '07) models that wiped rod bearings for whatever reason. Then again it's not like the NB was perfect either, all the '99 hoopla over thrust bearings. Either that or a 7th gen Celica GT-S I suppose, since it'd be the smallest and lightest 2+2 that isn't a death trap, and I'd imagine it's just as usable as the 6th gen I had which was VERY useful as a car especially considering its size.

After thinking about it and being honest with myself I rather have the Celica GT-S over the Firebird, hell I even liked driving the ST I had more ignoring it being half as fast and sounding nowhere near as good. I dunno, just depends on what I can find IF MY CAR IS EVER FIXED AND SOLD.

I sincerely believe if you get anything other than a Miata you'll just end up with a Miata anyway. Out of the box stock for stock the Miata is the better car I believe.

Yeah, you're probably right. Was just trying to expand horizons, that and here lately the feasibility of the NC(or any Miata) has been in question since I'm damned and determined to get back to school even if it kills me. If the NC is a good bit more refined than the NB I could see it being feasible outside of cargo space constraints, though the Celica did get a good bit better fuel efficiency with both taking 91(93 here).

My auto does an easy 33 highway, a slow 35 highway, and in the high teens to mid 20's flogging it. Mixed city/highway I see 25-28 over a tank usually for my commute. I imagine the 6 spd is a little better?

According to the original window stickers the auto GT-S is 25/31 while the 6-speed is 24/33, so it seems to trade a little city for a bit more highway. The NC is 24/30, so was thinking about the NB2 that's 23/28 as the NC isn't that far off actually.

Neat, so I get about or a little better than EPA usually.
So I'm trying to figure out my braking distance from 60 and either I'm terrible at measuring/judging distances or I'm stopping on par with super/near super cars like the 911 GT2 RS. I'm getting around 80 feet, certainly under 100ft, no more than 90 feet for sure. I wasn't stopping like putting my foot through the floor either just a hard stop. I mean I know the car can give me some tunnel vision and passengers usually complain that it feels like their eyeballs are coming out of their heads...but it can't be stopping THAT fast with stock brakes, aggressive street pads, and 200 TW tires...can it?

Well as it came stock the 2000 GTS stopped 60-0 in 111 feet for a MotorTrend test. So I guess improving that by 30 feet isn't that far off. "The GT-S we tested dropped an anchor and came to a standstill from 60 mph in an impressive 111 feet". I like that 'dropped an anchor', that seems fairly accurate for how it stops actually. Who likes math and wants to figure out how many G's I was pulling to stop from 60mph in 80 feet? Mathing that up a little gives me a coeff of friction to the road of 1.5-1.3 roughly for stopping from 60 in 80-90 feet. I guess that's reasonable...if only I could accelerate that fast. Actually I think I'd have less fun with a car with that much power because I'd be afraid of Kevin Harting it.

Was about to say I think the GT-S was 60-0 in like 110 feet, and on some kind of all season from 19 years ago. So I wouldn't be surprised if with modern summer tires you were in the 90 feet range.

Power is a double edged blade, it can make up for bad driving to an extent but it takes a higher skill level to fully utilize it. Power is only scary when it's uncontrollable or unpredictable, like the BMW with 200 more horsepower is more tame than the Firebird just because of the IRS and open differential versus the SRA and clutch LSD. Which power is pointless after a certain point on public roads, if it can get up to speed in a timely manner and get out of its own way then it's enough. Or at least for me that's the case anyway. I much rather drive a Miata or Celica than the Firebird, but that's a lot to do with driver ergonomics as well as the weight and size of the cars. Now a small and light car with power would be best, but those are few and far between with the price tag to reflect it.

Ask anything else. laugh.gif

Saw your 4Runner on Facebook the other day though. Loved my 4th gen! I was shopping around fir another 2UZ 4th gen but they are ridiculously overpriced here. 100 series LC’s are priced much better and I got a steal on the LX. I hate the real wood trim and navigation but the maintenance is up to date, there is absolutely no rust anywhere, and it already has a 1.5” OME lift.
