ok guys, ive been down the turbo road a few times and have loved but.. if i do it again i will most likely have to get custom pistions/ rods sense i cannot find some 4agze pistons. either way i am collecting parts to get her on the road again for this summer. so far ive got some more gauges on the way, new ACT clutch to be installed... i am waiting to see which pressure plate i want, i'll probably go for the 275tq one just to be safe. either route i go with my motor will be getting a port and polish job... rear drum to disc is also on my list to be done but sense i have had many problems with the turbo i am now looking into N20 (i guess i going backwards as some may see this) but, has anyone here ran nitrous on there 1.8 7afe? im looking for all details like:

what brand nitrous kit?
dry wet or DP (direct port)?
what size shot?
upgraded clutch?
any problems experienced?
anything else worth noting...

thanks for your opinions and input in advance.

I haven't done it on a celica, but heres my suggestion from other things I've done:

Definitely DO NOT get a dry kit. Get a wet kit. If you're going to be shooting anything over about 50hp its probably worthwhile to go direct port. Its really not that hard to do. I think a motor with forged pistons and a rebuild could handle a 75 shot, probably more if you're careful and install the low fuel pressure cutoff. I would highly suggest a good thermostatic bottle heater, it'll save you money in the long run. A remote bottle valve is also a good investment but not necessary for anything but convenience. Clutch would be a good idea but you wouldn't need anything more than the ACT that you're thinking about now. An upgraded fuel pump would also be necessary at higher hp levels but I think you already have that. Thats all I can think of for now, maybe I'll think of more later.

thanks speed, i already have a NX wet kit i was going to install on my sr20 nissan but its been in the shop FOREVER (november 13 till present day...) so yea... if i do go n2o i have an NX wetkit, new 255lph intank pump, RR FPR, and the clutch, i should be good with a 75 shot. id be afraid to go anymore without a progressive controller or DP.

im looking to get my celica back on the road ASAP like this saturday, or next saturday and i want to take the route that is best for realiablity, but i still want my toys... i know i cant have both but i am willing to take the risk one more time do to a desprate need for transportation. i know the turbo has given be problems with the PCV valve and some EGT's going to high (i have been dyno tuned see my file) so im thinking of running lower boost, which i should have done from the 1st place but its so addictive. maybe my new clutch and lower boost can yeild some better number thou,.. who knows.. 97sccelica (maybe misspelled sorry!) has had good results until a faulty fuel pump with lower boost. from my misfortune and his good fortune i think i can get a realible celica again with boost.

i would get another car but my parents are giving me a hard time about the nissan not done and the celica in the driveway so thats out.

that damn fuel pump.

anyway, my engine was in perfect condition other than the melted piston

all the other cylinders were OVER 200psi compression even at 16k NA miles i put on the car and another 6k at 8psi

i got to look at all the internals of the engine and everything looked good, if only the fuel pump hadnt have gone out.

but sadly, 6k miles isnt enough, thats like 2oil changes... not busting balls, cause ive blown my fair share of 7a's here.. my local toyota calls me for 7a parts now, im not joking about that either. im thinking i am keeping the boost, downing grading my turbo, and my boost addiction, upgrade the clutch thou. i have all the **** that i shouldnt blow it up again. i just got boost horny and ran 10psi for a few weeks.(ask the guys at the king of prussia meet, i gave everone a ride in car...) the dyno tune was good but the pistions gave up i believe due to the piston rings... they over heated and touched ends, cause the piston to crack/ deform.

Zip, dont give up, you guys (you Zipstrip and 97sccelica) where inspiration to me, and now, you both going to give up??? No way... I was looking for GZE pistons forever too, but just by the help of Coomer and other guys, they redirected me to www.club4ag.com and there are toons of guys selling stock or forged arias pistons, you can get them for aroun 100 - 150$ depending on quality. Check that website, and check Ebay tima after time. This weekend im going to pull my engine out, so i will have some info on pistons and etc.

For the pistons try looking here:

They have them NEW for 80$ eatch and used for 220$ whole set. So then there are no place to get them from, get them from them...

doggy, please dont see it as giving up. ive pushed the 7a turbo pretty damn far and it has cost me too much. i probably could have done a 3s swap, bought a highmilage GT, to prep for another swap... but anyways, thanks for the link, i knew about them but forgot what was offered there. i dont think i will have time to purchase them and do the work i really want sense i plan to get the car back much sooner than i ever planned so im kinda rushing back into picking up some speed /general maintance parts toget her back on the road. i think i can get away with low boost 5-6psi for a longer period of time and in the summer do the pistions. i have 3 7afe's laying around....
