2nd Gen. Ease of part location is, what i think, a major factor. And just upgrade from there.

I honestly don't think you needed to start a poll for this. What are your main concerns that's preventing you from deciding b/w one from the other? Cost? Accessibility of parts? Installation?

If you have no concerns either way...go for 3rd gen then lol...more power. That is if you don't ahve any concerns such as money, ease of getting the parts, etc.

I only voted for 3rd gen if cost wasn't a factor, I'd say do some more searching in aroung in the forums before you base your decsion on this pole though.

3rd gen all the way, most parts are interchangable with 2nd. it is expensive, spent 2300 on it here....

the big question actually is: mr2 engine or gt-4 engine: mr2 tranny, Gt tranny, camry v6 tranny.

mr2 engine, you gonna need an intercooler for, but comes with a nice LSD tranny, gt-4 engine, comes with w/a intercooler, and a useless tranny.

Well, obviously, if those aren't concerns, then get the latest release of the motor... wouldn't that make sense? rolleyes.gif

Like I said in a previous post, not ALL SW20's come with LSD...

basically just what ever is going to be most cost effective, and which you can buy all from one source with the most complete parts list in the best condition. theres no sense buying a 3rd gen if it doesnt come with a wiring harness or if it doesnt have certain sensors. either one is a good motor, of course its nice to start out with a higher baseline, and with more updated technology, but i dont think youll be disappointed either way.

i voted 2nd gen. do you know what 225+ hp in our light fwd cars is like (i don't) ?
but its gotta be nuts how fast it is, in my opinion, not experience, 225 is plenty and the 3s is so modable (not a word but you get the point) that you could have 250 easily. if i were going for the big dog swap i'd just go 2nd gen and enjoy doing small things to it down the road.

my goal is 310 whp over all at the moment and later maybe bring it up to 360-390. I know both engines can do that, also what would be the bast tranny to install on it.

i have an s54 curren 2wd transmission with axles, wheel hub, clutch, and flywheel for $400 plus shipping. This trany will bolt right up to the 3s-gte and has the starter in the correct position so you don't have to swap bell housings. it came off of a 3s-ge so it can take your power goals no problem.

pm me if your interested.

Swaps will vary... depending on how COMPLETE your clip is... READ the STICKIES in this forum... and you'll see what people have gone through, including myself...

The only advice that I can give you is BE PREPARED for some down time. Again, swaps will vary and you'll never know what to expect. I also hope you have lots of patience should the worst of the worst happen *cough* like me *cough*...

confused.gif Hey, I was just wondering what is everything I need to do the swap since I would like to get everything together then start the swap to reduce some time it takes to do the swap. I would hate to be waiting if I could avoid It. So If anyone can post a complete list of what I would need to get it running that would be awsome. I mean eveything so it can be installed and driven. confused.gif

Everything you need....so it can be installed and driven..man

It would probably vary from the engine you get and what you get with it.

But for starters just get a Front Clip. And the tranny you want.

Installed and driven would be tough because you will have to wait a long time for the WIRING TO BE FINISHED and the WIRING is Pretty tough.

If you do 3rd gen, I know that the few who have done it didn't have their cars for many months....and from what I remember Kuya was without car for a year or so...not sure hehe

And then you got to do custom piping for exhaust and maybe IC.

You probably want to go with Full Tune UP too.

And then there are a lot of misc. parts like fuel pump, shifter cables, etc, but you can do a search on the forum and find a list of parts you need b/c cause there are a lot of posts and websites that can help you with this stuff.
