So I like cutlery, I like tools, I like the feeling of doing something, even if what I'm doing is nothing.

I've always liked the way steel feels to use on various things, always carry with me my OKC RAT-1.

Anyways... I was going to purchase a small camp axe for my dad because we both like axes and... well to be honest we like the little stone wheel we got and I intend to use it on something.

I was looking at this Marble's Damascus steel small axe http://www.smkw.com/webapp/eCommerce/produ...Axe/MR000D.html and honestly I'm am liking what I see.

I was wondering if any of you fine folks out there in 6gc land enjoy axes and such as I do or have any thoughts about the Marbles axe?

They are beautiful and for all purposes superior, but I wanted an axe with a wood handle. I know that sounds obsurd and obsolete, considering all the things durable plastics can do now a days, but the feel of wood and steel just feels so right.

It's funny because when I saw the name fiskar I was thinking about fisker, the now bankrupt car company and was like wahhhht?

Wood handles will hurt your arm with lots of use, the composite handles like Fiskars uses dampen those harmful vibrations. If you want something for use, get a Fiskars. If you want something for art, get one of those you linked.

I ended up getting the Marbles damascus steel axe and a husqvarna 13 inch curved handle hatchet. They just look so goddamn beautiful and exactly what I had in mind. I don't like plastic handles, they don't feel right to me.

When you mistrike and the head breaks off, you'll wish it was a plastic handle. They also recoil differently when you mistrike. Try a good one, you'll love it.

Admittedly the best non wood axe/hatchet I've ever used was a coleman and a united cutlery tomahawk, which both felt different.

Maybe later in the year I'll pick up a fiskar and see what happens in my camping trips.
