Ok so I recently bought a Chevy cruze that came with the 1.4 ecotech turbocharged engine. And I was wondering if you could put a Chevy engine on the Celic. Obviously it's not something I plan on doing, but just wondering if that's something that could be done. From what I remember it has. 138 hp stock can't remember the torque but I see some hitting 200 with a good tune, intake, and exhaust. I figured this would be a cool project since everything seems like it would fit in a Celica.

Is it possible? Yes, absolutely. Anything is possible with money. And this would certainly be easier than a 2JZ swap or any other RWD conversion, but it's cost prohibitive. The cost of the engine, finding a clutch and trans combo that will work, axles, all for a measly amount of horsepower.

Ok. It's a nice compact engine that has an amazing torque table (not even a curve, just has torque the whole time in boost) and great fuel economy. Problem will be mating it to any Toyota transmission, wiring harness, ecm, and even getting one for less than an arm+leg since it's such a new engine. If you were to use a GM transmission you'd have hell getting any axles to work unless you had $$$ custom axles built for it. I think for the amount of work and cost involved you'd be better off with a 3S-Gxx engine or boosting what you have already.

Honestly an 1MZ swap would be better for a million reasons. Then you make some 200 hp and 214 ft lbs of torque out of the box, and best of all your Celica won't sound like the millions of bumbled bee imports on the roads today.

Anyone thought about a VR6 or VR8 turbocharged engine? why why why? just because something is possible, does not mean you should Hah true, for the custom work needed and cost involved... There's a lot more cost effective swaps. I was just thinking about 8 cylinders possibly fitting transverse in our celicas I think it's just the rx8 swaps I see (mainly on the internet lol) that get me jealous Btw sorry if I confused some people, by vr8 I really meant w8, wasn't thinking right at the time of my previous comment... It may peak at 138hp but it's got 200ft/lb from like 2200 RPM to 5000 RPM and is high efficient. But it's not worth swapping with all the special custom work involved. You'd be further ahead buying the rebadged Daewoo it came in and cramming some suspension under it.
