Well... haven"t had this happened in a while but the engine just came on. Celica still running fine.
Hope nothing major. I'm guessing the O2 sensor?? Anyone had this happened on your GT's? ('99 GT). |

Could be any sensor honestly but most likely your o2 sensor. Just run down to auto zone or advanced and they will run a test and tell you the issue. If it is your o2 sensor don't buy one from autozone... They'll try and give you bosch and its junk on imports.. Just order a denso o2 sensor online. Auto zone can get you denso but you'll pay 30$ more than what you would've off amazon. I just did this haha.

Be like me and buy something for $2 or so and then ask as they're ringing it up, that way they're more obligated to do such and you don't feel like a jerk. Then go home and buy what you need off Amazon, eBay, or RockAuto. I know with the OBDI cars there is a way to find the codes yourself by jumping two pins in the diagnostic port and it'll flash the CEL to give the codes. Rather or not that was carried over to OBDII I can't recall at the moment.

Rather or not that was carried over to OBDII I can't recall at the moment. pre ODBII cars you stick a paperclip and jumper Te and E1 in the diagnostic box. the CEL will flash the codes. -------------------- 2001 Celica GT-S Turbo

Just another reason I hate OBDII. Some transitional models carried over the built in test, I know the Maxima for instance did.

Autozone and advanced have scanners that test check engine light on obd2 Cars for free. That's why I said have them test(scan) and you'll find out the issue..

Yes, but some cars did carry over the ability to get codes from the CEL. Anyhow, just go to whichever is closest to get the code(s). It could be something like the EGR isn't functioning correctly.

unfortunately I cant get one directly for ODBI : < , there's a guy selling a custom one he built in the FS threads. I'm going to order an ODBI >>ODBII adapter and the ODBII > usb cord and see if i can get the Toyota TIS software to work on my laptop. If it works it will be Bitchin.
Thanks for reminding me. -------------------- Bust a Deal; Face the Wheel.
