KYB is a much better choice. Also I'd replace both sides not just one. Advanced autoparts is decent place to get them with 30% discount code if you order online and just go to store and pick it up.. Or use eBay/amazon. I got all 4 brand new KYB struts for 212$ inline and Autozone wanted 325+
TRT30 that's code for 30% off an order 50$ or more online. I used it last week when getting new swaybar end links. |

I'd go with KYB, and ditto on going ahead and replacing both sides.

Thanks very much for the input. Yes I was planning on replacing both. RockAuto has it half the price but I will check Advanced Auto tomorrow.
Thanks Thanks JMK91. The code still works and I saved quite a bit on it. Will be shipped to home in a couple of days and I should be able to install before the end of next week. This post has been edited by msk59: Mar 15, 2015 - 2:09 AM |

Rockauto.com $45/ea for struts, $45/ea for mounts
if you're changing the struts get the mounts as well. ...however, the new kit will not come with new spacers under the top nut be sure and reuse the old ones ![]() This post has been edited by VavAlephVav: Mar 15, 2015 - 8:33 AM -------------------- Bust a Deal; Face the Wheel.

hi VavAlephvav: Why do you recommend replacing the top mount. Is there a problem with these cars? I have ordered the struts but not the mounts I can order those as well if need be!

If you never drive aggressively/spiritedly and are on stock springs I wouldn't worry about them for now.

Pair of KYB struts, pair of top mounts, you'll be good. Though on a 96 I'd suggest the rears also, they'll be aged and worn like the fronts even if they're not leaking yet. It'll ride like a new car again!

BOX: I don't drive too hard and not abuse the car. Anyway i will check for those when I take the shocks out.
Bitter: I replaced those when I purchased the car last July as they were shot completely. |

What you should've done is gone with coil-overs from the beginning.

True, I'd like a set of nice coil-overs too. Maybe uncle Money Bags (AKA Box) will spot me $1500 until ...the second Tuesday of next week.
Generally the mounts wear out as well, they have rubber in them and the fronts also have an active bearing that effects the steering. On the rears the sway bar end links connect directly to the strut as well so you'd plan on replacing them when you do the rear. But the mounts can be slightly tweaked and effect your alignment too. -------------------- Bust a Deal; Face the Wheel.

Thanks VavAlephVav!. When I bought the car the rear struts were completely shots so I replaced those and at the same time I replaced the endlinks since these were not too expensive. The I saw the front endlinks were bad so i replaced those. Now one strut is leaking so I will replace both front ones. I will see if I can get a good deal on the hats from local dealer if not I will go with RockAuto.
Coilovers: I am not sure I want those as the car hugs the corners nicely as is and is quite low already from factory so I don see a need for coilovers for me. Thanks Guys. |
