there is nothing interchangeable between the 7A-FE and 5S-FE. they are totally different engines

Yup. Now a 4A and a 7A, or a 3S and a 5S is another story.

And a huge investment for questionable gains.

Well I have the 7a. Are there any parts from the 4a that are better? Or what I was thinking at first are there any other model car that comes with the same motor but better parts within the them then I have in my stock one

the 5sfe GT motor is better and stronger than the 7afe motor. If you can get cams off a 7afe motor from the junk yard and send them out to get reground to a different profile you will get better gains that way. I think the corolla has the 7afe motor as opposed to the Camry with the 5sfe motor

They're both economy engines. In my opinion the 7A is the more advanced of the two, it makes more power per liter than the 5S and revs more readily as well as having a great torque profile. The problem with both engines is breathing and revving, they don't do either very well which limits their power. The early 7A with adjustable timing takes nicely to some simple bolt ons and is shockingly full of pep.

cams are not going to help the 7A. you might gain 5 HP.. not worth the cost of getting cams done.
the only thing you can do is boost the engine or do a swap. -------------------- 2001 Celica GT-S Turbo

The 7A was peppy for what it was though, certainly not the worst economy engine out there from the time. Really you're better off swapping to a V6, BEAMS, or 3S-GTE. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed
