I know this question has been asked a million times, but my search failed me.
My non-running GT's engine is not in the best health, with high leak-down numbers and suspected low oil pressure, I'm looking into replacing the motor. The car was driven with a blown headgasket, and the heat has taken a toll on the wiring harness as well. Is the Camry 5sfe a direct swap for the one in the Celica GT? I've read that it has balance shafts in the oil pan, does this change the oil pan dimensions? If so, can they be removed easily? I've already figured out that a Camry engine harness is not a direct swap - the wires are coded differently, and some are longer/shorter than those on the Celica. So, I'm probably going to have to track down a Celica harness. If anyone has found anything to the contrary, please let me know! Shameless plug for my build thread... |

This may be a little late, but you'd want one from a '93-'96 Camry. 2nd gen 5sfe. After '96 they started making them distributor-less. Before that, well you will see the difference quite clearly.
