I found a video of a guy with a 5th gen Celica Alltrac that swapped in a v6 & kept his car AWD. Probably old news for a lot of you but it was new to me when I saw it. The video is here.

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/176894/gt4_alltrac_v6/

The search function on here doesn't let you search for two or three letter words so V6 + AWD doesn't come up with anything. I'm sure that the guy has to hang out on one of the forums, either here or Celicatech, alltrac.net, GT4oc or one of the MR2 forums. Any one know him, or have additional info on the car. I'm interested in seeing the challenges associated with this swap. A supercharged or twin turbo V6 GT4 would be awesome. I'd love to see more.

Please don't flame me for asking? I did try to search.

i'm sure its possible. the v6 swap can be done w/a 3vz and a e153 (made for fwd or AWD) so... you'd just have to continue the gt4 rear components from there

E153 is FWD, the E154F is the AWD version, simply an addition gear set fed to the rear where the FWD housing would normally end. Plus stronger dual sychro's

Am I missing something? What's the benefit to this over the 3sgte? Just seems like a lot of trouble for a car unless of course you wanted the same stock HP (Turbo) as a N/A car. That's all I can think of (so educate me please).

Turbo'ed HP from an N/A platform. Less worries about over-boosting or blowing up your motor. No turbo lag. regular unleaded instead of premium gas. Bragging rights.

Thats all I can think about right now. I wish I could retire so I had time to do this kind of stuff. only 35 years to go.

x2 pretty much agree. plus the option to (twin)turbo later. that is... if you can find the room. lol

he he..... googled and i got this thread........

i am currently in the process of doing a st185 3vz-fe turbo awd conversion as i write this,
atm i am still modifying the block......

besides the block mods it is quite a straight forward swap, but adding the turbo adds to what needs to be done,
i am also beefing up the engine, even though it isnt a necassity i want the piece of mind,
also upgrading areas of need to enable the addition of the turbo......

if you are serious about doing this than i would suggest the 2GRFE over any yota motors.. it WILL "bolt" up to the trans (w/ some light grinding and a few helicals/taping of some existing holes.) MR2's that get this swap done are regularly getting approx 275-W-hp.. that is across the E153.. with no other "mods" than just what it takes to get it to swap over (exhaust work). IMO it would be exactly what you are looking for.. PLUS!!! it is about 100Lbs lighter than a swapped 3SGTE.. i am sure you would gain allot of that back if you chose to put a turbo on the set-up, but then there would be no comparison between the two.. just take a look at whats going on over on MR2OC.com in the V6 section..

and the celica "should" have enough room in the bay to fit a turbo, especially if you do a trunk mounted battery. the MkII MRII has next to no room compare to the celica (in the bay). and yet there are a few current boosted dues, and projects in the works as we speak.. AND!!! the air flow would be sooooooooo much better too!! (in comparison)

If you drop the tank (and go with an in cabin fuel cell) then there would be enough room under the car for a pair of remote mounted turbo's... but then the choke point would be the center tunnel and careful attention would have to be paid to avoiding heat transfer between the exhaust and the charged pipe.. (though i believe that if both components were wrapped and separated by a heat deflector then that should take care of that..

The 2gr would be the highest out put swap but isnt the best if you want to run turbo.
Plus there is alot of wiring to be done an the price tag
Ill have my swap in an running with a 1mz for the same price youll pay just for the 2gr itself
If you want to turbo get a 3vz an rebuild it.
If you do turbo theres enough room if you move the battery to the trunk
An the best plqce ive seen them mouted( twin turbo) was over top the trans.
Buy of money os no issue then 2gr with new sleeves to handle the boost
Imo thats the best option if your on a budget or got money to blow

plus the 3vzfe -- obd1 (easy to work with), heavy but indestructible cast-iron block, only requires 3psi of oil pressure, plus its readily available and cheap.

and my favorite little tid-bit... I WOULD love to give it TWINS. how? individual turbo's for each exhaust bank, and the cold side would lead to a lexus 1mzfe DUAL throttle body, mounted to a 1mzfe plenum and intake manifold (yes it matches the 3vzfe head.) <---took a LOT of research to find that little gem.

and... GO! lol

I suggest you look into a 1MZ or 3MZ instead of a 3VZ

If I had to take a guess he wants the iron block for high levels of boost.
