I've got a 94 GT, and basically, I feel wronged that they stopped selling All-Tracs (or what for our generation was called the GT-4) over in the US. It seems that lots of people (including myself) look to engine swaps to make up for this shortcoming, however, I would like to know if anyone has simply tried to import a used GT-4 from a European country that has LHD (Left Hand Drive) models. My understanding is that it is only around a thousand dollars to ship a car overseas, so this seems like a good solution for obtaining a 6G with more power. Has anyone researched this in terms of what it would take, how much it would cost, and what we would need to do for it to meet US specs? From what I've heard, people have been pouring limitless amounts of cash under their hoods, but this might be cheaper if all you have to do is swap out the catalytic converter or something like that... Any thoughts on this? I was inspired to ask this question after seeing Paranoid's sweet 95 hatchback GT-4 that he's got in Iceland...

yea they do exist. and it has been done, but we have yet to see someone on here have one AND have it be street legal. its going to take more then just filling out customs forms to get that thing over here and drive it on the street.

If its left hand drive why not just get the vin off a wrecked celica with a clean title? And just say its modded or something

well what has to be done to make it street legal? why is it so illegal?

crash test standards, are the biggest thing. . . .even if you live in a state with little to no emissions, you still have the crash tests holding you back. . . .and getting that info from toyota, atleast in my experience is like pulling teeth that do not exist. There was a guy on here (truejigga) who was selling a nice mint red gt-4, stateside but it wasn't road legal. . . what kept me from getting it. . . in the state of kentucky atleast the emissions were not a problem, because we have none. .. . but the dmv would not give me a vin for on or off road use nor would they supply one for show. . .because the car could be still be driven on public roads to and from shows. The only way i could register it was as a race car. . but that means no road use at all, and according to the person i spoke with means no county(aka off road) or state road use.
Although he gave me some info, which pretty much was. . .. .find a state that'll allow me a vin and then have the title transfered over to kentucky. . . kinda like when people in florida wreck and savalge a car, rebuild it, ship it to virgina and re-register it as a clean title.

I'm pretty sure that he ended up selling it though.

Also, I know there's a guy on this board trying to convert a RHD GT-4 to left hand drive so it looks more legal for road use. I think his name is WRC or something like that confused.gif .

hey,
yeah that is me .. everything is coming together and i will be towing my gt4 home across NA in 3 weeks ..

i will have lot of pictures for info ..

i am right in the middle of another customer mr2 turbo swap and doing my v6 mr2 swap at the same time so things are hectic around my place.

i just got my 10th mr2 a white 91 hardtop turbo(soon to be v6) in showroom new cond for FREE so it will match WHITE GT4 ... i acutally like silver or blue much better but i am tired of stripping cars to repaint so i will learn to like the white .. the GT4 could be pink and i would still drive it ..

Like is said in other post start saving your pennies as there will be a dark green 97 GT4 LHD for sale later this year ..

derek
