You guys have alot of mixed feelings here, I was an autosound installer for many years, worked with Brooklyn's Best Audio when I lived in NY, and helped Mike Mineo with his Camaro... Rockford Fosgates are still making quality products, odds are (and this goes for every speaker) if your blowing the foam surround, or pushing the voice coil past the limit it is your fault not the speakers, people believe you can throw a subwoofer in a box and go... if the box is smaller than spec calls for you can throw the rated rms at it, if the box is too big you would need double the rms to keep it sounding nicely which results in overthrow of the coil...

Think about it... if you build the box right and to specs almost any speaker on the market would thump and sound somewhat decent.

Anyways here is my suggestions....

AMPS: Precision Power, MMATS, Rockford Fosgate, Pheonix Gold

SUBS: JL Audio, Kicker (only reason I say this is because I had kicker comps in one of my cars once and the sub took a beaten and kept going), Audiobahn

COMPONENTS: MB QUART or FOCAL

and please for the love of god pick up a good crossover, Audio Control for example.

thanks for the advice man smile.gif

no, I KNOW what I'm talking about. Trust me. These words might as well have come from me mentor, a USAC and IASCA judge, and the 4th place national competitor for SQ in 1998, along with number one competitor in New England.

However, let's not argue about stupid **** like this. Anyone can make a system sound bad, even if they've got Adire Shivas in the rear with MB Quart pro-series fronts, as long as they don't know what they're doing. However, I know you can make Earthquake sound good if you know how to design systems well.

I do agree with on this point you can have best equipment in world but if install it wrong it will sound like like a peice.

Peace out,

William

For a low cost decent sounding system..

Go with a JL W0 12inch in a sealed box (cost ya about 200 bucks around here)

And for amps, it depends.. are you going to run your speakers off the headunit, or do you want to replace those factory stock ones?

If your staying with head unit powered, get a Sony Explod Mono Block Amp. it puts out about 200 watts, and you can get one for about 120.00 online.

If you want to power all 4 speakers, get a decent 200 dollar 4 channel amp, from a good shop. Remember the critical thing with car stereos.

it's not the amount of watts. its the quality of watts..

A Quality JL Amp (or other high end company) Will put out about 50-75 watts per channel.. This is MUCH better then some no name POS amp saying it puts out 200 Watts per channel. Seriously. the 50-75 watts will be louder then the 200 watter..

Just my 2 cents smile.gif

"Their old stuff is reminiscent of audiobahn today, meaning it was quite decent."

LOL comparing old RF to audiobahn? Your kidding right? Old RF was nothing like audiobahn in its day. They actually has quality products. New RF and Audiobahn are on the same level now.....

So you recommend sony for "Quality" watts? Please don't spread things that are false. Keep it to yourself.

Its all about sounding them out in person, and knowing what the purpose of the system is....i.e, really low lows, punch, nice sound or keeping the neighbors up, etc. This would be MY reccomandation which fulfills just about any purpose you could think of.

For a good balance of SQ, SPL's, and value, i would have to reccomend getting 2 10" Polk MOMO subwoofers and a Phoenix Gold amp that can deliver at least 300 watts RMS x 2....or, get a 4 channel amp and bridge those together to power the 2 subs. Also a power cap on the amp will help keep sound output consistent.

I have a 10" Polk MOMO in my car right now, and the balance of punch and sound quality is awesome. It handles power effortlessly, and sounds much larger than any other 10" sub ive ever heard and it has great flex and durability when its turned up high. Not to mention it looks great too, and its only like 120 a speaker. Cant go wrong there. wink.gif

Your better of with a Type R/Infinity Perfect/PG Ti/EDK/Adire Shiva for that price.............

What about Power Acoustiks? They have some FUBR 12's hooked up at the local Best Buy. They sound really good when pushed with the new RF 500/1 or 2 cant remember for sure. Its a new RF amp. Sounds really good though.

For woofers I would go for Focal ... They kick some serious ass ... Play hard and good.

Cadence has some really nice amps and woofers too ...

Personally I have a Sony headunit which i am very happy with smile.gif
