Here is what I found on www.6gc.net for Monroe Struts:

QUOTE
These are replacement struts for the sixth generation Toyota Celica. The part number for the front left strut is 71558, and for the front right, it is 71557. The rear struts are the same and the part number is 902957.

On www.pickproparts.com, I have the following part numbers for the Monroe Struts:
  • Front Right - 71557
  • Front Left - 71558
  • Rear Right - 71559
  • Rear Left - 71560

Does anyone have any insight on the differences in part numbers listed on our site with what's provided to us on pickproparts? I want to order these ASAP, but I don't want to order the wrong ones and realize it when the car's jacked up and disassembled.

Also, should I re-use the existing strut mounts or grab new ones from pickproparts? Product Number is 902957 on their website, is this correct?

My plan is to order these Monroe Struts, perhaps new rear strut mounts, some strut boots, and finally some Eibach Pro-Kit Springs. I suppose I just need some feedback on those part numbers... some re-assurance that I will be ordering the right hardware for my vehicle.

thanks all!

I just got through replacing my struts today(err, well almost done, anyway). I can tell you that all 4 struts are different. The two fronts have little ears welded on to them to bolt the brake lines to. They are mirror images of each other. The rears are much the same, except they also include an ear to bolt the rear end link into, and a mystery ear that doesn't seem to connect to anything. These two are also mirror images of each other. The part list on 6gc seems to be pretty close on the fronts, so my guess is that the listing on pickproparts is the correct one. The front left and right numbers are flip-flopped, but that is okay as long as you get both... The rears, though, are definitely different, so I would go with the list on pickproparts. I wish I could give you a guarantee...

Strange thing is that Monroe says they are the same. So perhaps that is where 6gc got the information.

Also note that Toyota has 4 different part numbers; additionally, there are different valvings for GT, ST, Convertible, and GT Sport Package. Monroe seems to have only 3 (perhaps 4), as opposed to the 16 that Toyota has... Not trying to sway you by mentioning this, but thought you should be aware. My guess would be that Monroe has valved theirs a bit softer than stock, so as to give you the impression of a smooth, supple ride. I am not sure if this would mate well with stiffer springs or not...

If you are doing the work yourself (and it isn't too hard to do, just need a helper in some cases) you might also consider getting some end-links for the rear in case yours are rusted like mine were. The end-links bolt into the strut housing and you need a 14mm box-end wrench and an allen wrench to get them off. If the retarded bolt is rusted and strips, you have to cut the damn things off. You can't get the strut out of the car without disconnecting them. Its is really, really lame when they round out. Also, you are going to need a HEAVY duty 19mm. I had to use a breaker bar and a 10 pound sledgehammer to break the strut bolts loose. Those bolts are seriously on there. Aside from a set of strut spring compressors (which you can rent at AutoZone for free) you should be golden.

Good luck, and hth.

No those seem to be the right #'s. I work at Napa and everyonce in a while I check on how much they will cost me to do all 4.
