in the how to articles there is an article on how to make your own short shifter with the stock shifter that comes in the celicas - link (http://www.6gc.net/howto/make_custom_short_shifter)
My question is in the article he says to use a punch to tap the lower piece down. so i have drilled out my pin and have tried multiple things too lower the peice but cannot has anyone else had success with this mod i am at loss of how to get this piece to budge

You're much better off getting a Megan Racing kit or the like off eBay or where have you, plus with the kit you also get the shifter base bushings which helps just as much if not more than the shifter itself.

i just figured i would try the cheap route since i had a spare shifter lol but you guys are right, i just dont get how the original poster of that article did it because i have a hydraulic press and i still couldn't get it to move with that. im assuming it must be friction welded to the inside of the ball

Here's an actual Megan Racing one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Megan-Short-Throw-...EVM&vxp=mtr

Though now there are generics on eBay suspiciously identical except for the bushing colour: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-HEAVY-STEEL-00...Lwg&vxp=mtr

I have been using that generic kit with blue bushings since 2013. Works as described, feels great, no further fussing needed.

Yup, I used a 7th gen Megan Racing one in mine. Only thing is you have to swap over the nylon tip bushings from the factory shifter to the aftermarket one.
