just get a 7th gen short shifter. They are pretty cheap in comparison, they reduce throw to about 40 percent from stock, and are an inch and a half to 2 inches shorter in height. Just make sure they come with the 4 washers.

Just make sure they come with the 4 washers. ^This. It fits perfectly in the 6th gen shift assembly and the complete set (shifter, solid aluminum washers, extended bolts) is only $20. You just can't beat that. -------------------- taking too long to mod since '09

eBay.
TWM was my preferred short shifter when I had Celicas. I have tried TRD, TWM, and 7th Gen. I found the 7th Gen eBay unit to be cheap quality, which some people are okay with. The TRD is the tallest of the three, but it is the easiest to install because it comes as the entire shift assembly. Plug and play. The TWM was short and notchy and I like it a lot. -------------------- 1991 MR2 - T-tops - Crimson Red - Gen3 3SGTE - Lots of money

I have no problems with my 7th gen shifter. It's fairly smooth, short, and notchy. Personally, I like to take the entire assembly out before dismantling it because I don't like the close quarters of the car. And contrary to popular belief, you don't need to remove the entire center console shroud to remove the shift assembly. You just need to move the shift cables out of the way and find the so called "sweet spot" that'll let the assembly slide out nice and easy - no damage done to the shroud.

which twm did you have? I noticed they have more than one kind? They have different kinds for different models of Celica. There's only one TWM shifter for our 94-99 model years. -------------------- taking too long to mod since '09

I wanted to buy a TRD Short throw shifter. Cant seem to find anywhere. Had one on my old celica but sold that one. Is there a nice alternative that you guyz recommend? Links would help Thanks I installed the TRD shifter tonight. the install was easy until I dropped a socket on the top of the transmission and didnt have a magnet to retrieve it. I got it done and took it for a spin. I thought the stock shifter was a little hard to find 3rd and 4th when speed shifting and that 5th and 6th were a long way from 3rd and 4th. this is not the case anymore. I would say it shortened the throws by up to 50%. reverse is a little harder to find but not impossible. this mod was more for my wife as she is 5' tall and i didnt like the way she had to reach for 5th but it will help on the rocks as well. I did get the knob as well. My knob had white writing instead of read on the top but red TRD on the sides. I didnt have to use the nut the knob used all the threads and ended up strait. actual install time was about 40min. This is just and update on this product I got it at cost and am very happy. -------------------- |
