My gf’s son is interested in purchasing a 95 GT convertible (automatic) w/190k on it.
They are asking $2200. From the pics it looks in good condition.
My question, what should I be looking for when I go look at this vehicle?
What issues are common, and I should be aware of?

When look at a vert, roll down the rear windows. See if they slow to go up and down. Make sure the power top works as well. In the backseat, look behind there, there is a black cover of some sorts, see if there was any signs of water there. That's to make sure the rear window is still intact. Also feel the rear carpet and see if it's damp. Other than that it's like every other normal car, maintenance history, rust, things like that to look for.

Something seems off with the bumper and hood, if it's not been in a wreck then I guess a sumo wrestler sat on it during his break while working his part time job on the docks over 20 years ago.

looks like a decent celi. black top is nice, again check for rips, tears, leaks and check that the top goes up and down smoothly.
body looks fairly decent aside from the front bumper. One thing that the ad doesn't show is the engine bay. Hopefully everything is in running order. Check the radiator and make sure it's not yellow or brown or has any cracks. Most the ones I see for sale have yellowing radiators. I would also check under each door for rust as that's where most tend to start rusting.

look, i have a convertible and they are great cars, something you need to know, parts to replace the windows and seals are no longer made. Replacing these parts have become a problem for some, if you are car oriented, great. But if you dont want to be in a situation later down the road, that car cannot go out in the rain because the rear windows dont go up, it sucks....

^Serious consideration for what is probably someone's first and only car. If a convertible is a must then maybe a Solara might be a better option, plus the Solara is a good bit bigger which is nice since you could actually have four people of average American size enjoy it. Though it might be in the same parts availability issue as the Celica, at the very least more so the first gen over the second. The de facto convertible Miata has no parts shortage so if a convertible is the biggest factor and car size doesn't matter then that'd really be the way to go, plus automatic Miatas are dirt cheap since no one wants them.
