Hopefully enough good reliable info can be compiled in this thread so that it can be thrown up onto the Resource Site or maybe a Sticky.

I've been trying to find info on the different trim levels available to the Aus market. In particular, the ST204 GT. Using a search term "ST204 GT" is pretty well useless as most search engines will disregard the "GT" as being too short but then return thousands of pages containing "ST204".

Wikipedia gave a little bit of info, but it's very lacking. I've searched other forums but again, the search string is not much use (1000+ matches) and often if it does work I just get results on the TA22 etc. Wading through over 1000 posts isn't something I'm really looking forward to.

So far as I can tell, the ST204 released to the Australian market came in 4 trim levels:

SX

Very common, base model with few options. Factory alloys, driver airbag, no ABS... a very "vanilla" option if you wanted a sporty looking car.

SX-R

Very similar to the SX, the SX-R had black/red interior and the white gauge faces. No ABS, driver airbag only (?), factory alloy rims, aircon, and the sunroof was an optional extra. Not as many around as the SX, but still fairly common.

ZR

The ZR trim level included dual airbags, ABS brakes, fog lights, factory alloys, aircon and optional sunroof. Seemingly fewer of these are around than the SX-R.

GT

From what I can tell and from what little I can dig up from the interweb, the GT is the same as the ZR except it came with more options as factory standard, and is badged with "GT" in gold lettering. I've only ever seen 2 of these. The included extras (and I may well be very wrong here) are things like an immobiliser, 6-stack CD, fog lights, alloys, abs, dual airbags, aircon. I don't know what kind of limit there was on releases to market, and i can't even find any reliable evidence that they were even manufacturer imported (IE available at the dealer) or if the very few that are around are all personal imports.

From the tiny amount of info I've been able to get so far the SX, SX-R and ZR were available from '94 through to '99 right until the 7th Gen was released. The GT from what I can tell was available '95 to '97. There was a GT for sale recently which was listed as a '95 model and the other one i saw I read the rego sticker in the windscreen to see the year model, so I don't know if the were available in other years as well.

Yeah i had a browse through the member's rides list and saw there are a few from the states. Am i right in thinking it's just a 5S based Celica with lots of comfort options?

the GT seems to be very common in the states. theres only 2 models made of the 6th gen that were legally sold in the US which was the ST and the GT .. the GT comes with the 5SFE which what seems like has more options then the ones sold down under if you will haha..

what info are you actually looking for tho?

GT were not sold new in Australia as far as I am aware.
Only the SX, SX-R, ZR and GT-4 (77)

More info on the top of my head.

SX

Very common, base model with few options. Factory alloys(false - Came with Plastic hubcap), driver airbag (False - option), no ABS... a very "vanilla" option if you wanted a sporty looking car.

SX-R

Very similar to the SX, the SX-R had black/red interior and the white gauge faces. No ABS, driver airbag only (false - option) (?), factory alloy rims, aircon (pretty sure this was an option on all AUS spec), and the sunroof was an optional extra. Not as many around as the SX, but still fairly common. Had fog light as standard. Only available 96+
This was known as the runout model.

ZR

The ZR trim level included dual airbags, ABS brakes, fog lights, factory alloys, aircon (pretty sure this was an option on all AUS spec) and optional sunroof (confirmed). Seemingly fewer of these are around than the SX-R. Sideskirt as standard - 96+ updated model

Good info there, was that from the brochure you had at home? I found a GT for sale not far from me. Was going to grab a ZR from a mate later in the year unless a better deal came my way. I had a drive of it and from what I can tell it's exactly the same as the other Celicas. This one has power sunroof/windows/steering, 6-stack CD, A/C, factory alloys, dual airbags, black and grey interior and gold GT badging. Also had a short-shift installed which made for great gear changes. I checked everything I could think of but I totally forgot to check the compliance plate to see if it has the ADR stamp frown.gif Hopefully it doesn't sell before I revisit it.

Ted95 - I'm more or less after info about what was standard on our 6GC's and what the factory options were. Mostly so i could make a better informed decision if I were to buy one other than what's on offer, but also to clear up some conflicting info I had on all models, but particularly the GT.

So I contacted the Toyota Experience Centre in Australia (basically just customer support) regarding the GT. I supplied the VIN and info i already know about the vehicle and asked if they can confirm it's not a grey import. Toyota confirmed it was originally sold in Australia so I'm pretty happy about that. I'll be picking up the vehicle soon so hopefully photos will follow soon after!

As a side note, I have contacted quite a number of auto insurers to try to get a quote for comprehensive insurance. Almost all insurers have rejected the car as it isn't currently on their list of cars that they insure - my guess is the rarity of the model makes it too much of a pain for them to insure. One company (A) that didn't have it on their list offered full insurance with an annual premium of $1900. The excess - which is the amount you need to pay if you need to make a claim - was $800. I couldn't help but laugh. Paying 25% of the vehicle's market value every year just for piece of mind that that I'd get the value paid back if i happen to write the car off to me is not a worthwhile purchase.

Another company has offered to insure it for $1200 per year with a $600 excess - not great but a darn site better than the almost $2k quoted from company (A).

Passenger airbag in the ZR was included when they done the facelift. IE the clear turn signal.

Toyota never released a GT model ST204 in Australia. The one you're looking at would just be a normal Celica that someone has put badges on. At a stretch it may have been an unofficial dealer option, but I doubt it.

Check the VIN again with Toyota and just ask them which trim level it is. Maybe the compliance plate will even tell you?

Not sure if this will help any, I just got off the phone with a toyota service center. I gave the lady my vin number and she told me what each of the characters ment.
1. origin, ex: mine is J meaning japan.
2. manufacture mine (as all of yours should be) is T meaning Toyota.
3. mine has a 2 meaning passenger vehicle.
4. mine has an S meaning double cab limited.
5. engine size, mine is T meaning 2.2
6. restrant system, mine actually has a 0. The lady on the phone said she was not sure why bc she only has meanings for 3-9. meaning that the 6th digit should be either 3,4,5,6,7,8, or 9.
7. series, mine is a 7 meaning celica.
8. car line, again meaning celica.
9. FBI verification, i guess if something happens to your car this is the digit that is used to identify your car. at least that is how it was explained to me.
10. model year, mine has an R meaning 1994
11. plant code, mine has a 0 meaning Toyota motor credit
12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17 are just a serial number for the plant the car is made

Also my car is an ST204. GT. But it is in the states not sure if that will matter

Welcome Hotka smile.gif
Sunroof was an option on all Aust celicas.
ABS and airbag was sold as an option brand new I think they call it a "safety pack"
Seems like the first owner of your car ticked most of the option list smile.gif

Hey guys, I was under the impression ST204 was also Canadian spec. Can anyone confirm? I have an ST204 GT-S spec from Canada. I'm trying to find suspension parts that fit and having a hell of a time and I think this might be why. Thanks!
