What does the Celica use for tranny fluid? Tegs use regular 5w-30 oil. Was wanting to change it out. Also how much does it need. I have an 5 speed ST.

Ive heard good things about penzoil synchromesh, suposedly it really smooths out shifting. I think you might need a little over 4 quarts? And Im not sure on the rating.

mobil 1 + lucas gear oil.

Good call, the Mobil and the Lucas are both great products. When people come into the Napa store I work at, I always point them in the direction of Mobil and Lucas products.

in my c52 (in a corolla, should be nearly identical for your celica st) tranny we put in 85w-90 gear oil..... it's a bitch to get in.... and we needed 2.7 quarts

when you fill it (the fill bolt is on the side of the tranny near that top, should be facing you when you open the hood) you should be able to just stick the tip of your pinky into the oil when you put it into the fill hole....

The factory recomended(sp?) oil is 75w90. And as far as pouring the oil, it's much easier with a 'beer bong' type funnel.

Guess I'll buy 3 qts then. Planning to do a swap so I'll just use the regular 75w-90 on my ST's tranny.

we used the pointed bottle and hooked a long hose up to it so that we could squeeze the bottle and the oil into it.... still took about 20 minutes though

I wouldn't pay them more than it costs to get an oil change. It's about the same, except it takes longer to put the tranny fluid in and there's no filter to change.

It's easy... there are two pretty big bolts on the tranny. One about halfway up the side (the fill plug) and one on the bottom (the drain plug). open drain plug, drain fluid, replace drain plug, open fill plug, put in fluid (it should take like 2.6 quarts - stick your pinky in the fill plug when you are getting close to see if you can feel the fluid level up to the fill plug yet).. replace fill plug and you're done.

the hardest part is getting the filler plugs off. It's either a 24 or 26mm bolt I think.
