You've got most of it. I HIGHLY suggest reading through Marc's (Gouky) thread on MR2OC.
He pioneered this swap into the SW20, which translates a lot of info into the 5/6gc. He was meticulous in documenting the swap, and was the base for NJCCMD's info. Read it, Love it And don't worry about Casey, she's just being punchy. In fact, we've all made the same mistake. Also, Take a look at this thread for more info too. -------------------- ~bloodMoney

Brakes are ez, I can find a rear disk GT pair for under 200. Do it right and get the front and rear GT brakes plus the proportioning valve. GT front brakes are much more effective than the ST fronts and it's the fronts that do most of the work. -------------------- |

For the 2gr you'll want the RAV4 2 port connector since they don't have the immobilizer. The other Toyotas are 5 port. However I think the Sienna and Highlander had the oil cooler standard, but it was optional on the RAV4.
In regards to the axle setup, it's actually the st185 outer with mr2 (turbo or non, depends if e153 is oem lsd) inner. You'll need one of the v6 axle carrier, I forget which one atm. Common thing is also to get a spacer on the passenger side. Custom or taking an old st185 outer. This post has been edited by TimeslideZ: Sep 12, 2019 - 12:17 PM |

It's all good, and I look forward to seeing another 2GR Celica out there. Also I forgot about that post njccmd made prior to actually committing to the 2GR, so nice rediscovery blood.
You can also get the E153 from the few Camry that had the 1MZ and 5-speed, Camry/Solara is basically the same car in that regard and many others so keep an eye out for them as well. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

So to quote directly from this article: 2GRFE MR2
"donor parts (i got the whole lot from a non smart key 2006 Avalon with about 55k miles for 2500$) - 2GRFE engine - ECU - Immobilizer computer (hides between the A/C and the firewall in the Avalon. requires full dash disassembly to get to) - Immobilizer antenna. This just snaps onto the key cylinder and has a half dozen wires or so going to it - OBDII connector. (Located at the driver's knees) - Engine harness, this includes connector A, B & C to the ECU. no need for any of the fuse boxes. - wiring harness pigtails for ECU connector D & E, the immobilizer pigtail & the immobilizer antenna pigtail - THE IMMOBILIZER KEY. (this can be worked around but it takes a very cooperative dealer and it still is quite the pain in the rear) New Parts - 1MZ flywheel. I used a Fidanza 9.5lb - 300$ - High HP clutch. I used an Exedy stage 3 because I was not expecting this much HP from the motor. I was disappointed. Get a different one (I?m going for a Spec 3+ next) - 500$ - Tranny rebuild - ??$ (I haven't done the tranny stuff yet) - 61.5" 7rib v-belt (advance carries it, Napa does not for some reason) - 60$ - fuel pressure regulator. i went with an Aeromotive regulator with gauge. The motor requires 43.5psi - 130$ - Toyota long life coolant - 70$ Optional Donor Parts - Solara transmission for the stronger input shaft & better rear end ratio - ??$ (I haven't done the tranny stuff yet) - NA mr2 tachometer face. - 60$ (this needs confirmed yet) - 1mz tach from late 90's Avalon (6300RPM redline) - 40$ (this needs confirmed yet) - You may want the volt gauge from the NA cluster also, but i plan on supercharging eventually so I am keeping the boost gauge. Exhaust Parts I went full custom here, this isn't 100% required but it frees up quite a bit of horsepower. I?m not going to list prices because stainless steel prices are very volatile and most people won't be able to make this themselves anyways which total changes the price. let's just say my exhaust cost me about 900$ for just the materials and my labour was free. Other Parts - Toyota Avalon Electrical Wiring Diagram Book - 25$ - Toyota MR2 Electrical Wiring Diagram Book - 15$ - M12x1.25 helicoil kit Parts total: 4600$ (the thread said about 4k because I did not realize I needed another new clutch at that point in time)" Will definitely be coming back to this plenty. Now reading off these 2gr swaps everyone seems to change out the clutch and flywheel kit. Is this really necessary for the E153? I know itd reduce wheel hp loss but I'm not looking to pull insane power from this build. Im trying to keep everything as "stock" as possible. If the engine and tranny runs good, Im dumping it into my car type stock |

I definitely encourage the 2GR swap. If I could, I’d yank my BEAMS out and go 2GR or 3S-GTE. 2GR’s have come down in price since Norberto did his swap but it will still not be inexpensive. A BEAMS swap can easily exceed $3k and that’s about the easiest swap we can do in these cars. My only advice is to set an extremely high budget since swaps nearly always double the planned budget, but don’t let anything stop you from getting a 2GR in your car if that’s what you really want. The MR2 forums are a great place to start but not 100% applicable to our cars since we have things like power steering, like Norberto mentioned.
The S54 will handle the torque of the 2GR if you aren’t driving like a maniac and launching or doing ricer gear grabs. I believe it will bolt up to a 2GR but the gearing will be obnoxiously short for it. However, it should still hold you over until you decide to go E153. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. ECu is in the OEM location. Oh yes that second link does us good. The post seems like you got your parts all over the place though, did you pull the engine, ecu, and harness from the Rav4? Whatd you need to do with the wiring harness to get it to work? If I use Camry headers, Id just need a custom midpipe? And from what Im hearing, you just dropped it on the Rav4 mounts and welded custom frame brackets from there? No custom mounts or anything? Id love to keep the stock hood too, GT4 anything is no easy feat to get my hands on. How bad is the clearance issue and can it be fixed with a big a** saw? Alot of questions but this is good. I want to pioneer the ST 2gr if noone has already. |
