Greetings all, i've been thinking about a potential transmission swap when i swap my beams engine in as i'm not certain the stock C54 tranny will take the power and i feel the gears are a little too short. i was wondering if i could get some insight on some potential swaps.

My first idea was a 6 speed from the 7th gen celica the C60 or C65-01B which comes with a helical LSD, i heard if you just swap the dumbell for any C5x transmission it will work apart from possibly some mount locations and/ or shifter cables and shifter.

My second was the manual 5 speed out of any 93-01 camry the E153, its the same transmission they put in the mr2 turbo so i know it'll hook up to a 3S block and the shift levers on the tranny look very similar, i would only be concerned about mounting points and possibly axles.

If anybody has done either of these swaps some help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

7A/1ZZ/2ZZ engines were paired to C-series transmissions. 3S/5S were paired to S-series transmissions. BEAMS 3S comes with S54 transmission from factory, plus LSD.
I don't know if the C-series box will bolt up to a 3S engine - maybe, I just don't know.
You can swap the S-series transmissions to an E153 transmission, need axles and other shenanigans. But, while the E series transmission is very robust (supposedly good for 600hp), it is quite a bit heavier. 50lb or so if memory serves me right. S series is good for 200-250hp. You'll never get even close to 250hp out of a BEAMS engine NA, so why bother? There's no point in bolting a Turbo to a high compression BEAMS engine - it would be a disaster. Much better off starting with a 3SGTE if you intend to Turbo down the road.
Also, before you complain about the gears being long, have you driven the BEAMS engine, yet? The gears are so long because the engine revs so high. You need long gears for that engine. You could also swap the final drive in an S-series box, but it is quite an endeavor (I've done it, the whole transmission needs to come apart completely).
Hope this helps.

I understand a C series wont bolt up right off the bat, id need to dumbbell swap but in regards to your input on the E153 im not complaining that the gears are long in my stock transmission, im complaining that they are too short for my liking, the E153 has longer gears to remedy this issue. but i do appreciate the input and info.

you can fit a c160 or c60 transmission onto a beams motor. however the only people in the world that i know of is from South Africa. adapter plate needed. they literally modify the bel housing so it bolts up to your 3sge. however im against what they do. because it will cause your motor to sit up right like the 7afe and 2zz engines. and then you'll have to modify your exhaust system as well.

kinda dumb if you think bout it because toyota was able to adapt an E58 to 4agze and still allow it to sit up right in the bay.

a C64 from a lotus elise exige is best as the 6th gear is shorten and makes for perfect driving. c60 from (7th gen celica) has a very long unusable 6th gear imo
