Well, you might recall me braggin about how i got a scholarship and i was selling my celi... but that whole thing fell through. To make a long story short, they wanted me to major in nuclear engineering, which meant doing something that i didnt want to do just for a free ride.... not for me since my parents are going to pay anyways. Well i did get some scholarship money elsewhere, but thats besides the point.
to my topic: i was just looking into a engine rebuild. ive got around 160k mi on my car, and i just want some more trust in my car when i head off to college. i was thinking about just going for the 4age swap, but im a little bit weary of buying an engine which i have no idea how much milage it has on it, so... if any one has any intup on this or insight, feel free to add... then im looking into just going for an engine rebuild since ive got some people that can get me cheap quality parts and help on the labor itself. (its my managers friends which did his s10 rebuilt for about 550 bucks total, parts and labor) so then my question on this is what parts would you suggest i get for my rebuild??? what would be common among rebuilds? anything would be awesome... also, whats the common/average rate for a black top 20v 4age? |

best bet is to make some calls and find a newer motor to just install.. it will be cheaper too

best thing is to rebuild your engine. that way you knwo yoru engine is brand new and nothing can go wrong with it.
things needed for your rebuild; New main bearings Connecting rod bearings Piston Rings Oil Control Rings Oil Pump Water pump all seals and gaskets remachined head. new timing belt basically that would run you around 700-900 dollars cdn funds. labour on top of that i don't know. once you replace that all in your engine you practically have a brand new engine. |

what excatlly would you need? does any one have any links to info on this? |

A rebuilt will only be worthwhile if you're gonna improve and build the engine up during the rebuild and most importantly... if you can do it yourself. Cost-wise... it's pretty expensive to have a shop re-build an engine for you. Depending on the parts you wanna replace, be it OEM or 3rd party, or something, it'll cost far more than a used low-mileage replacment. Sure it'll be better to know you're on a rebbuilt motor... but costs-wise... it's roughly about 1/3 the price of a performance swap unless you're capable of doing it yourself...
